Teddy or Jameis? (1 Viewer)

He wasn't the last option.

If the Saints didn't want to Jameis, they'd have made plays for Baker or Jimmy G, both of whom are available for reasonable draft compensation.

Exactly. Last week the Saints were willing to trade at least 3 first round picks and players, and take on an insane salary. If they thought there was a player better than Winston available for some picks and/or players, they would have done it. Watson was worth it in the Saints' eyes. But also we know now that no other player was worth giving up a pick to obtain in their eyes as well.

This isn't hard if you're not trying to rationalize your opinion.

I mean, changing to wanting Watson when he comes on the market is pretty much so a sign that people weren't Winston fanboys or part of a herd in the first place isn't it? Watson is just an objectively better QB than Winston and even Winston's ceiling isn't as high as Watson's ceiling.

Changing your mind when new data and new options come available is a sign of intelligence and flexibility, not herd mentality. Herd mentality is refusing to change you mind despite new information and new opportunities.

And I still don't get your fascination will calling people who disagree with you "fanboys", "lemmings", or part of a "herd." I mean, what are we kids? Can't we just have a rational conversation without trying to refute what someone says with ad hominem arguments?
He believes he's the best at viewing stuff without inherent bias that the rest of us are subject to.

He can see what we can't basically.

I, for one, did not want Watson—at all. Way too costly to acquire. Way too expensive to sign. Way too much baggage to deal with, especially at those prices.

I still wish we’d opted to sign Teddy, especially given how cheap he Fins got him. And I would have been intrigued to try and reclaim Baker off the scrap heap, particularly with Teddy backing him up. Having those two duke it out for the starting job would have would have been pretty satisfactory as I think both fit well into the Saints offense.

But here is to Jameis proving me wrong. He’s certainly got the talent to be a good starting NFL QB.

No doubt... The Saints went after an upgrade at QB... They still need to. JW is good for now... but not the answer.

My point here was the "following the herd" post response... Most of the herd switched fanboy glasses real quick when Watson was thrown into the equation...

Winston was the last girl on the bleachers at the dance when the Saints signed him to deal worth just a bit over backup money in guarantees...

Yet now we are here acting like he was the 1st choice all along, and that he's somehow not a consolation prize, and that his teammates would ever in a million years publicly do or say anything but good things about him... even though they were ALL on board with replacing him with Watson just last week.
The constant “fanboy” stuff is nonsense, but also not even accurate to what you seem to be trying to mock people for.

If most posters on the board admitted that Watson is a better player than Winston, then how can they be simple Jameis fanboys?

As others have pointed out, Winston was also not the last girl in the club, on the bleachers, etc, etc. There were other player signings and trades available (and the Saints clearly showed they were willing to trade a lot if it meant upgrading).

They offered Winston a contract early (when they could have signed several other people) and finalized the deal after Watson was traded to the Browns (instead of trading for Baker, Jimmy G, or others).

Has anyone here actually even said that Winston was obviously the team’s choice all along, or tried to deny that the Saints were interested in Watson?

Just because someone thinks Watson is a better QB doesn’t mean they are suddenly lying or “switching fanboy glasses” if they say they are comfortable, or even optimistic, about going into the season with Winston. That goes for players, coaches, and fans alike.

One thing that's not disputable is... The Saints FO was actively looking to replace JW this offseason with a better player. And they will likely continue to do so until the find a real franchise QB... just as they should.

There is a huge fundamental flaw in your statement here. How can you replace a guy that is not even on your roster?

JW was clearly the 2nd option when the top 3-5 type QB talent that rarely if ever hits the open market....did.....

And the fanboy comments are so utterly predictable from you, just another tactic from someone who can't be more wrong....more often.....

I hope Winston does well and succeeds. Just as I would if any other qb was starting for the saints. But after watching him play for years I don’t have much confidence in him. I remember when he played for Tampa I always hoped he played and not their backup. I always thought the only reason Tampa stuck with him for so long was because of his draft position.

I don't get it...do we just say stuff to say it regardless if its true or not?

the first 2 games, sure they were defensive wins, but lets not act like dude stunk up the joint when he was here:

31-24 and 36-25 sure looks like some defensive slugfests there....he played so well that Drew rushed back to re-claim his team a week before he really should've.
Ok that Tampa game he was ok. But that Jax and Chicago game is my point. 1 td against Jax and 2 against the bears. We were relying on field goals.

Winston can score, teddy can't. They both can put up yard numbers that doesn't matter if they don't end in a score. Moving on
