TENNIS ( An All Year Round General Thread ) (5 Viewers)

I have known for at least a year that Jessica's dad is the Buffalo Bills owner. Anyway, she is her own person who now has a chance to follow in Coco's footsteps. Sabalenka is back in the finals against another American. Go Jessica!
She has a different game than Gauff.

Her strength is that deep ball, keeping the opponent hitting from well behind the baseline, and moving them side to side. From the middle of second set on, she found her range and just peppered that deep ball where and when she wanted, making it hard for Muchova to find a shot that would allow her to rush the net ( and a few times she did, she won a few, but lost more and that made her start to second guess her approach ) and finding winners since she is having to hit from 10-15 ft further back.

It was a pretty awesome display last night of ability and mental sharpness about playing within your own game.

She took immediate control of the 3rd ( Muchova left court after losing 2nd, presumably to "regroup" mentally ) winning the first 3 games, basically laying down to Muchova you gonna have to find a different game to beat me and Muchova couldnt. Brilliant match by Pegula.

I kid not....there was a Winn Dixie that closed at foot of Causeway bridge that a group of us "tinkered" with the idea of leasing to do indoor facility. It was large enough to fit 6 courts with a circular bar/seating area in the middle. I still kinda wished i would have pushed the others a bit harder to really sit down and plan this thing out because between renting courts to pros, HS practice and general public, along with bar/food/seating....what could have been.

Its just here, IIRC, in order to host USTA/Junior events, you must have a minimum of 8 courts and you just couldnt fit 8 courts. ( with spectator areas too ) So that would have hampered ability to do tournaments and bring in additional revenue.

Beau Chene has 2 indoor, but they STAY booked year round.

Ah well hopefully someone comes along with way more risk taking and money than i will ever have and create an indoor facility. Would be really nice on 40 degree days with 20mph winds that i not stand at net with one hand in shorts, freezing my ears off.

Lol i know that Winn Dixie, ive been there a hundred times and i actually had a job there in high school that i think holds the distinction of being the shortest time i ever held a job- three whole days .. but i digest .

Yeah that seems like a workable idea, but - as much as it pains me to say this- the real money in a facility like that would be in also having it set up for……. Pickle Ball … im not a fan of pickleball b/c the pickleballers have taken over many tennis courts in America, and it’s even happening here in Asia.. i just can’t figure out why it’s become so popular, since for the last few years ive been hoping to see a resurgence in people playing actual real-deal tennis, and there was a resurgence somewhat during the pandemic stuff- but not like pickleball.. I honestly think it’s because most people are too fat and lazy to play something intensive like tennis, especially singles tennis, and would rather the easy pace of golf or pickleball.. but that’s just me being grumpy, and a Scrooge .
