That Derek Carr Contract is Looking Pretty Brilliant Now (2 Viewers)

What an absolutely ridiculous thread, Carr isn't worth more than the league minimum. He may retire having NEVER won a playoff game! He's worse than his brother!
His brother flat out stunk. I had the misfortune of seeing many Texans games when I lived in Houston. He was so lame one time he said he wasn't going to cut his hair until he won 3 straight games. His hair got very long

As soon as we signed him my feelings were the same as now. Carr is your ultimate avg starting QB. Sometimes he will perform at a #10-11 level QB, but it usually evens out to just an average joe. He’s not great, but he’s not as bad as most fans say. He isn’t having success here bc our roster overall just isn’t good. If he had the Saints defense from 2019 or even 2020 I feel we would be a lot better. The issue is you have have an average starting caliber QB when the rest of your roster is depreciating. And unfortunately for us, our best players, especially on defensive side, have declined quickly. Bottom line Carr isn’t as bad as most negative fans say and he isn’t as good as most positive fans say. He is what he is and EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS COMING IN. He was notorious for being not great in the red zone prior to NOLA. That didn’t magically get better with new coaches.

I put his value at 25-30M before we signed him. His 37.5M contract is reasonable value compared to his rank and other QBs contracts. It's less appealing because we tend to restructure and payout every penny. If he is on the roster for 2026 at 50M or we extend and kick that 50M, then it will be a bad contract. I think Baker Mayfield is a better QB on a better contract (4M in 2023 and 33m/yr now) and would have helped solve our cap issues more quickly.

Carr was terrible in the Carolina game. Bad pre-snap, post-snap, footwork, pocket awareness. The only thing he did good was get the ball out quickly. If he plays like that the remainder of the season, then his contract is terrible.

Not gonna make excuses, but, I wonder if him not being 100%, plus the general state of the team being a mess affected his play.

With the coaching change and his health being a bit better next game, would his play improve enough to justify keeping him on.

1000% disagree on your QB take about responsibility for wins and losses.

Did you watch Carr and the Raiders? Lots of drives, few points to show.

Here's 7 minutes of his pick 6's with the Raiders.

For you to think that the QB is completely responsible for W/L's is insanely ridiculous, but that does not surprise me.
Even more ridiculous is you thinking that the QB is solely responsible for INT'S. It just shows how little you really know about the game. More then half of the picks in your video we due to WR's not making a catch they should have or that they were not even looking for the ball, or stopping on route. But you keep being delusional in your DC hate and carry on. SMH

If anyone lives in America, he/she is surrounded by Cowboys/Raiders fans. I live in the Deep South and I can rattle off 20 die hard Raiders fans in a minute or so. THEY watch all of the Raiders games. They mocked me endlessly 2 years ago when he first came and it has not subsided at all. Why do people still make excuses for sub-par players ?
Yep because fans know everything, right? And they are always right

Carr can be the bridge QB for the "guy" (assumed not on this roster currently). That's his only value at this point.

At least to me, that's always been his only value, he was never going to be anything more here IMO....

Carr is far from the biggest problem on this team, he's like a lot of midtier QB's, give them time and a decent running game and he will make plays....take away one of those things and not so much....

Carr has the arm to be the guy if the team around him is good. As we saw weeks 1 and 2.

He is NOT a Josh Allen and he is NOT going to elevate those around him. Not sure how much that is worth as a QB but given our roster depth I think we will always be disappointed in him for this reason. By time we get a roster to support him, he won't be a Saint.

I don’t see how anyone can really know. Not saying the guy is greatness, but has he really had a real shot with all the injuries and mayhem?

I’d say yes. The amount of time he’s spent in the league has been enough to confirm he’s a top 15 QB with the ability to play like a top 10 guy in spurts and also a back 25 guy in spurts.

Thats how he’s been his entire career

My only issue with Carr has been when he makes rookie mistakes, like the throw that killed Olave, or missing a read, or that throw last year out of bounds to Olave, or the pick six to the Falcons, or that horrid ball he threw at the start of the KC game.

I also don't think playing injured last year for so long helped people's impressions. He couldn't throw very well and I am thinking 'Isn't this why we paid Winston? So he can recover and get back to 100%."

Carr is like a mirror. He will reflect back the team around him.

I would think my best comparison of DC would be Goff. Yes Goff made it to the SB but that was with a very good HC and team and of course he never would have if not for the no call. Give DC a very good offensive HC and a good supporting cast and you'll get the same results that you get from Goff

LOL every and I mean EVERY QB has thrown a not so perfect pass that a receiver got tagged on , just go back and watch that pass that DB threw to Reggie that he just got clocked on. The only reason that pass is getting so much attention is due to a whiney diva ex Saints WR that needs everything to be about HIM being stupid on social media.
My big question is where is the outrage on the dirty player that took the shot on a defenseless Olave, a player that has had more roughness penalties called on him than other player since he came into the league?

It's due to a good number of our receivers being injured in games or taking similar hits. Carr makes a lot of mistakes that even an amateur like us can see. If he has a decent supporting cast he will likely flourish and look decent. Playing for our team, it will often be a struggle for him.
