That non-call may have closed the door on this era of the Saints (1 Viewer)

I think our window is going to be open as long as Brees is there and we have the young talent we do. Once Brees retires, if Teddy can be a manageable replacement we still will have an outside shot. I have to agree though, if the NFL met its demise I wouldn’t blink an eye. They took something very very special from the fans, the team and the coaches. To me it’s unforgivable. My love of the Saints has slowly brought me back here as time has healed some of the wounds.

The last two years were magical. If that’s it, then it was a run that will always be considered stolen from us. If we can muster it this year it will be the sweetest Super Bowl victory in history.

Time will tell but I think we still may have a chance.

I know this will not be a popular post and I will get a lot of thumbs down and I am fine with that. I am still sick over that non-call and still not sure if I will even watch the NFL anymore. I firmly believe that travesty in the NFCCG sent everything into a tailspin. Ingram never got his ring and moved on to Baltimore (maybe he would've stayed had the Saints won the Superbowl...maybe not.) Unger was a mainstay on that line and should've had a ring with the Saints as well. Watson should've gotten a ring with us before he retired. Brees should've been 2-0 in the Superbowl and Brady should've been 5-4...and the GOAT argument would suddenly become a little more interesting. There is no telling who else's legacy it will affect down the line. Last year was our year and sadly I think the door is now closed. I do believe that Brees is on the decline and unfortunately I think we may see a drastic drop next season ala Favre after his stellar season in Minnesota. Everything was in place last season for a Superbowl - First year without Mr. Benson, all the eerie similarities to 2009, very few injuries, etc. Instead the Saints and their fans got robbed. I don't think we will be as injury-free this season nor do I think Peat and Armstead will be as healthy as they were last season (which is saying a lot considering they were both injured this year.) And I hate to say it but without Unger I think our line may be suddenly be in trouble. And we know that how the line goes...so does Brees. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this team winds up going 7-9 or worse and missing the playoffs. I hope I am wrong but it certainly has that feeling to me.
Complete and utter nonsense!!!!

As I said in my post.. I knew it wouldn't be popular. If the Saints prove me wrong (and again, I hope they do) then I will gladly revisit this thread and say I was wrong.

Last year was stolen from us the year before we blew it. It wasn't the Vikings fault or the refs fault we couldn't break up a pass or tackle someone with 10 seconds left. It's sports and it shows you just how much each year is special when you have 2 great seasons like we had. This is why it's so hard to win a Super Bowl and it's why you just enjoy every year that you have that chance.

This isn't the end because we lose two players it's hard to keep everyone together year after year. We always hear around here what a great core we have and what a great locker room culture we have well if we believe that then why jump off a cliff. Things like this were bound to happen and they will happen again in the future you accept it and move on.

Free agency isn’t over and we haven’t had the draft, yet. WAY premature. This opinion is asinine.

My opinion wasn't actually based off of Ingram and Unger. I've actually thought that every since the season ended. Their departures just added to it.

I wasn’t going to go that far, hahaha.

Look, our offense fell off a cliff at the end of the year. Part of it was nagging injuries to OLinemen, including Unger and Peat. Part of it was lacking any true receiving threat outside of MT and AK. And part of it was Brees missing some throws he’s normally made.

We still should’ve been in the Super Bowl.

Our FO has addressed the deficiencies. Health on the OL should help and, frankly, Unger may be at the point where he won’t truly be healthy anyway. The FO has clearly been working with that idea in mind.

The only way I’ll be disappointed by this off-season is if we don’t a) sign someone like Easton who can play C/G and at least compete b) sign a TE like Cook who can attack the seams. Those are the “musts” as of now.

We still have the best roster in the league. Just need to fill a couple holes so we can draft BPA.

"If a man thinks he's gonna die tomorrow, he'll probably find a way to make it happen." You are welcome to believe whatever you like but I don't believe that. That's why I think it's nonsense.

Having Unger and Ingram level in the same offseason stinks. I don't or can't blame anyone who feels a certain way and I wouldn't want to. I was just trying to reply to the fact that losing those two is a part of sports that happens and yeah it is a bummer. I think we will be ok and after the season I really had it in my mind I was done with football but once the anger went away I am right back in the swing of things I have been through worse with this team so as always you accept it and move on.

You’re still caught up in your feelings. I was the same way after that unforgivable call. But save this post for next year, because our current team has too much talent and drive to drop off in 2019/20. After this coming season, well that’s a different story.
