Opinion The 2024 Saints Team Will Run The Table to the Championship Game (Here's Why) (1 Viewer)

Can’t argue that those were indeed both very low points. I look at them as glass half full tho as I’ve hoped the team would tear it down since Sean left.
Hopefully in the fiture those can be looked at as points the franchise made it's turnaround.

The Saints waited way too long to fire Dennis Allen. The cry for help started last season and no one listened. Now, we just have to endure the rest of this season.

I was hoping Kubiak could have made a slight difference and the first two games were way above expectations while somehow, I just knew it would crash down. I didn't expect a 6 game losing streak. I expected us to be around .500 at the BYE. This is not the worst I've seen, but it's definitely up there.

As much as I hope they could turn things around and win out, I don't want false hope to play with my emotions. If it happens, it happens and I'll be grateful, but realistically, we have a lot of needs and a lot of changes that still need to happen for a complete turnaround.
Speaking of Kubiak... with all the news coming out regarding all the strange ways that Allen dealt with players and staff, I can't help but wonder what the impact of DA's firing will have on Kubiak's way of calling plays now. Will he have more freedom to call plays and game plan for opponents? Or will a desperate Rizzi be even more concerned about how he should implement the offensive schemes?

If Rizzi tends to back away and give KK more control of the offense, then we will certainly know what kind of offensive coordinator we really have. But if Rizzi ends up being a micro-manager of this team, it may be hard to know for sure if what we'll see going forward is more the philosophy of Rizzi or Kubiak. I suppose the best thing would be if we are seeing a collaboration of two football minds who are already on the same page in regard to running the offense and assembling game plans for our opponents.

It would be great if there are no clashes when making decisions either before or during the games.

While I appreciate your optimism……

I’ve been a Saints fan since the early 80’s. This is the second lowest point I have seen the Saints and there are quite a few to pull from. The first major low point was the now infamous “diddly-poo” speech followed up by Jim Mora quitting the next day. Ironically, it was too against the Carolina Panthers. This loss and the subsequent firing of Dennis Allen is the second. Now, with reports coming out of how bad DA ran the team and his (lack of) management skills with people, the Saints are rock bottom. Couple this with Mickey Loomis all but saying that Gayle Benson pulled the trigger and not him (thereby committing insubordination), the New Orleans Saints are struggling.

Will Darren Rizzi provide a spark with a “screw the outside noise” vibe? No doubt. The lack of talent and depth on this roster is their undoing. I am and always will root for the Saints but I am old enough and have seen enough to know that the Saints need a total clean up and that started with the firing of Dennis Allen, the trading of Marshon Lattimore and I believe it needs to continue with the letting go of Mickey Loomis.

Again, I appreciate your optimism……..

I’m here to help support the delusion:

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Saints Nation:

Take heart, and be of good cheer!
For I, your brother Paul, is here.
With unlimited, free snacks and beer.
To get you through this terrible football year!

:hihi:

It's fun to watch the younger group of Saints fans talk about this period as being the lowest ever for the Saints. To you post-Mora era folks it's obvious why you feel that way. But to the remaining group of 70s & early 80s diehards, I can hear your chuckles of what it was like to start a season with the dream of being able to win a game or two. The two 8-8 seasons prior to Mora's arrival made us feel like we were finally 'close' to being a contender.

I know that fans compare each season against what we have previously experienced. The old timers were never able to compare a failed season against things like playoffs wins and Lombardi presentations. But as Sean said, we all would eventually come to want steak over the dog food that we had been previously served. The only difference now between the old timers and the newer Who Dats is that our definition of 'lowest ever' is somewhat different.

That said, it doesn't make us oldies any less hungry for the top cut of meat. But personally I haven't been delusional since Lanford's late field goal in the final game of the season kicked Bum Phillips and the Saints out of our first playoff berth. Back then I was convinced we had the team to run the table all the way to the Superbowl. These days I generally know when we become a legit contender. This isn't the time for me to be delusional.

But maybe next year...???
:hihi:
Gen-X Saints fan here as well (y)

I know I'm nitpicking here, but we had 7-9 and 5-11 just prior to Mora's arrival in 1986. You might've been referring to '79 and '83, when it was 8-8? No less painful here on the Lansford memories. That was the year the Dome Patrol was born, essentially, with Rickey Jackson as the cornerstone. Did you know we had the No. 2 defense in the league that year, behind only the eventual champion L.A. Raiders? Offense was a putrid turnover machine with Stabler and Wilson under center, however. First full season I can remember as a kid.

Yes, indeed, it's been WAY worse than this in Saints history. 2006 through 2020 was quite the thrill ride. Hope it doesn't take another generation to see another contender!
