I hear you. With no disrespect intended, I think you're thinking with your heart. Saints need a long term QB, therefore you're high on the QBs.
And not singling you out, this happens every year. When the Saints needed a DE, people were talking up draft prospects that would eventually go in the 3rd or 4th round as potential 1st round picks. I remember people talking about Taco Charlton like he was the next coming! Taco. When the Saints "need" a certain position, everyone talks about the players at that position like they're all can't miss. You'll see things like "here are my top 7 RBs in the draft. The Saints could take anyone of them 24!" Saints need a safety? Come draft, you'll hear things like, "can't believe Dunbar Ventriloquist is still there in the 5th, I had him as a 2nd, the Saints need to jump on him quick"
I can understand why you may think the need for a quarterback makes me wanting the saints to grab a quarterback, but this is not the case.
I do know we need a quarterback long term, but I am not thinking with a sense urgency.
I don't think any of these quarterbacks are prospects like Joe Burrow, or Desean Watson, but I think these prospects are capable to have the game and impact of say, Derek Carr.
My point is, you may not have a superstar in this class, but you have (on my view) very capable players. All worth of the 18th pick on this draft.
Since I think we will not be picking early in the near future, we may take a chance and go and get one, if we really like him.
Right now, of course left tackle is top priority for the draft, followed by receivers, but I would not be mad if the choice is quarterback.
The quality of the players to me, is well worth the cost of opportunity. We are not drafting for the next two years only (Winston's contract), but for the next 10-15 years.
