I am not at all a cap expert, but from the looks of it, Cam Jordan’s cap hit next year is 23 million and it is 17 million in 2025. Does anyone know if there’s any way we can get out of this without kicking the can down the road further? Cam only registered 19 tackles, 2 sacks, and 3 tackles for loss this year, and it’s not like he didn’t play either. He started almost every game.

The lack of pass rush off the edge really killed us this year. Cam was no match for scrambling QBs either as they just seemed to run circles around him. I know Cam is an all time great and he deserves to retire here, but his salary is way too high given what he put out there this season. Was it just a bad season or should we expect more of the same next year? I feel like this has to be dealt with somehow in the offseason.

Any salary cap gurus on here that can explain what our options are when it comes to his salary and cap hit?

I feel the contract was structured to take Jordan to the end of his playing days as a Saint. I'm confident he'll be back next season but who knows beyond. He was banged up this season which you'd expect for someone his age playing this game. If he retires under contract then he would likely do a similar restructuring deal like Drew did. However, they are not going to cut him. He's a cornerstone of the franchise, team leader, Saint lifer and maybe HoF'r.

Ideally he comes back healthier and performs better, but we need to be looking out for pass rushers in the draft and in free agency, and continue to reduce his role if this is who he is now.

If you spend some time looking at Saints contracts, you'll discover that 2024 is really the worst it's ever been. We have already turned salaries into signing bonuses on void years for a lot of players. There are some that are expiring, there are others that are players under performing/oft injured and others close to retirement. Many players that fans would like to move on from that are locked in because it would cause the already insane cap situation to balloon even higher. Cam is one of those and there is nothing that can be done outside of maybe a small restructure that spreads his $6.3 million base salary, but that's not even enough to make a dent in our cap issues.

This is going to be a head scratching and at times infuriating off season for Saints fans that don't follow the contracts and cap. Loomis' "magic" has left the team with nearly zero roster flexibility and next years team will be half filled with minimum contracts and UDFAs to round out the roster of past their prime and seemingly overpaid vets.

We are stuck with the extension. Jordan will be here next year because there's nothing you can do with his contract and constantly pushed bonus money. In fact, I think we see Cam's 6.7M roster bonus converted to signing bonus and current signing bonus restructured to spread his 30M guaranteed over 4 years and "save" 6-7M of cap next year. I think 2024 is his last year. I can't see Cam playing 2025 and the Saints paying him 12.5M in base salary.

Edit: One cap website says his 2025 salary is guaranteed. If we are on the hook for that, then this contract was terrible. Maybe the plan is for him to retire after 2024?

Cam would have to agree to reduce his salary for 2024 to vet min. (1.21M) , agree to void the roster bonus, and then file retirement papers after June 1. that would reduce his cap hit this year to about 10.3M for 2024 and about 13.1 in 2025.

I just worry that some of those ridiculous contracts will force us to let a lot of our young talent go.

Why cant we do that and just pay him cash under the table like Patriots/Brady?

I told u guys he got the Kobe Bryant treatment. Athletes make enough money they don’t need one last crazy contract extension. Sign a reasonable offer or go elsewhere
I feel like that’s what Sean Payton would have asked him to do. He was pretty good at knowing when to let certain guys go.
