The High Ceiling/Low Floor QB prospect that is probably our best option in the draft: Malik Willis(And some Sam Howell) (3 Viewers)

The main knock against Willis is the OC would have to develop a system around him just like the Ravens did with Lamar. He’s not going to come in and fit a West coast timing style offense like Pete runs. Sean didn’t even try changing up the offense for Taysom which is one reason he wasn’t that good. IMO Willis’s ceiling will be Micheal Vick and floor Akili Smith.
Had we gotten Watson would Pete not of known what to do with him? If Willis is the guy they have a plan for him.

I've played with the PFF draft simulator a lot over the last week and if they are even remotely close to right about team needs and how the draft might fall, I see no reason that we can't get a great WR at 18 and move up into the end of the first to grab one of the QBs. It's still really hard to get a handle on what the teams actually think of this class, but I really can't see more than 2 QBs being taken in the 1st round right now unless a needy team trades back into the 1st. I think we could be that team.
Honestly, I it's a draft day decision for me. I'm keeping an eye on how far Jamison Williams falls because of his poorly timed injury.

The WR class is so good that I would mortgage a future 1st to get an extra 1st catch a falling Jamison Williams.

But the only way I do that is that I have some insurances at QB. If Malik is there at 18th. Draft him. Work a trade in the mid 20s for Jamison Williams.

Part of the argument around here for not drafting a QB in the 1st has been that they couldn't contribute this year and Jamison Williams is also in that same boat. He won't have camp and likely to miss many games if not all of them his first year. If we're looking ahead, then I'm totally on board, but I'm not sure where the team is on any of that. Olave will most likely be there at #18 though, is he the real deal?
Williams will play this year...a QB won't. AND THEN... If a rookie QB does end up having to play that means this year is totally in the sheetter and we'd be in a position to draft a proper QB in '23 where the QBs are much better than these prospects. It's really simple if you take out all biases.

A lot of the analysts have Willis ranked higher than Pickett right now, and I'm not sure I agree because I don't think he's ready to start day one.

He's a better prospect, but he's currently not a better player.

The thing is fans say "grab one of the qbs" like any QB will do. But then when you hear teams talk about it, they usually have 1 QB they want. If that QB happens to be Pickett for us it doesn't matter if Willis falls. Kind of like when we missed out on Mahomes and passed up Watson. Mahomes was our QB. Maybe we'll have 4 or 5 QBs we'll be good with, but I doubt it. Also a 2nd round trade up to a late first would likely cost our 2023 1st round pick maybe more.

I agree with Bucky Brooks. Kinda reminds me of Steve McNair. Big kid.
Don't watch that pro day Taker, it's a joke. Lol
