The next head coach is inheriting a mess (2 Viewers)

All of this means you probably won't get to pick from the lot and get a sexy hire like Ben Johnson. But there will be plenty of hungry up and coming assistants and coordinators out there that will be ecstatic to get an opportunity to be head coach of an NFL team. They just have to pick the right one.

Harbaugh was a DB's coach and had coached RB's and LB's in college. I like Rizzi but all he has ever coached was ST's
Did you read my post where I said that Campbell had all the stars aligned?
In the last 4 yrs the Lions had 19 top 100 draft picks from their own sucking and the Stafford trade , plus the got Goff in that trade and some of those picks top 10.
I'll give Campbell credit for hiring Glenn and hiring Johnson and for firing Lynn his OC and promoting Johnson because it was him that made Goff not suck.
Campbell also had the benefit of a very good GM , Holmes doing the drafting.
I stand by my Dan Campbell Ed Ogeron comparison
Yes. You’re using “all the stars aligned” to completely discredit the job that Campbell has done in leading the group.

Thats a HC’s job. Lead people, hire good assistants, delegate and make tough decisions.

One POTENTIAL advantage we may have with Ben Johnson is in fact because their staff has so much Saints influence.

We have no reason to believe Dan Campbell, Aaron Glenn, etc. would have reason to badmouth us should Johnson go to them for intel on our operation.

QB Coach and Saints Super Bowl Champion Mark Brunell may also be a dark horse candidate for us from their organization.

-QB Is solid
-Kamara is a playmàker.
-4 out of 5 on the OL is legit when healthy.-
-WR and TE are an area of concern.
-Granderson and Bresee are good building blocks but the DLine needs help.
-Smith is still productive and a leader and Werner is good. But the Saints could use a playmaker at LB.
-Taylor and Kool-Aid are solid at CB.
-The Saints need help at Safety.
-The kicker and punter are good.

Overall the cupboard is far from bare. They need to clean the cap as much as possible and hit on the draft. The worst problem this year by far was the head coach. That is the key moving forward.

Right, but there are degrees to that.

Payton talked about passing on the Raiders job before eventually landing with the Saints. It’s made me wonder how much that might actually happen. Taking the wrong job can really tarnish a coach’s marketability.

Entirely speculative but I never thought the Saints were in the running for McDaniel in 2020, even if they had interest. Would you agree there were some important differences in the attractiveness of those openings? Same with Jax and a coach getting to work with Lawrence (at the time) vs Winston-Hill-Book or drafting Pickett, Riddler etc.

Coaches are going to take the most money with the best opportunity. DA is now set for life if he never works again.

The idea that young coaches won't come here due to the mess seems far fetched to me.

Payton came. And, he left a mess for DA.

It's just the luck of the draw with the draft, performance and the right combination that can equate to lightning in a bottle like Brees and CSP or a wet firecracker like DA.

I think honestly a good coach can make this team a 9 win team next year, especially if the Saints draft well and get some quality depth in the bottom of the draft and UDFA.

In the NFL, not much difference talent wise between a 4 win team and a 10 win one.

What we currently have is a 10 win team with half the injuries. THere's a very thin line.

We have Mickey giving #1 picks to the Eagles and packers. We never seem to win trades or trade at the right time.

I know its probably a pipe dream, but im really, REALLY hoping its both a new HC and GM, that way we are truly rebuilding and hopefully we can be back to being contenders in due time.

Anyways, the new HC and his staff have to have a little wiggle room here, i honestly believe we are going to be bad (not including this season) for at least 2 seasons while not only we continue build the roster, but get out of the cap misery we find ourselves in for the near and foreseeable future. This means, unless we strike lightning like some franchises do (e.i this year with Washington and JD, last year the way the way the Texans did with CJ Stroud, etc.) its going to take this franchise a few years to find a capable QB via the draft or FA (i prefer the draft) to be the face of the team. I dont care if its Ben Johnson or if we make our interim HC the permanent HC, they have to be assured they are going be giving a margain of error...i mean unless we go 1-15 in back to back years or something as bleak, we cant become the Panthers and fire our HC after 1 or only 2 years, they have to be be given, imho, at least 3, probably 4 years to see if they are the right staff to lead us for the next decade or so.

Seriously, the Saints brass, as well as us fans, need to preach patience here. Rome wasnt built in a day, nor was an NFL contender, im ready for the rebuild..ive seen us be dominant, i dont if i speak for the majority, but i can wait. If if doesnt take years, then great, beautiful! But the odds show that wont be the case, so we need to settle in for the long haul. We aint the most attractive job in the NFL, needless to say, but you know how you make it attractive? Tell the new HC and his staff (hopefully someone like Ben Johnson who just witnessed a complete rebuild from the ground up and would know a thing or two on how to go about it) they have the authority to do w/e they want, cap-willing that is, and honestly make him one of the highest, if not the highest, paid HC in the league. Its not like a coaches salary counts against the cap anyways.

Even with the injuries this team should have at least 5 wins if we had a good head coach. I say that because I think a good head coach wins one of the Philly or Atlanta game, steals one of the 4 games after that, and wins the Carolina game.

Frankly one or two time outs at the right time and running Taysom Hill on 4th and 1 at the 50 probably wins that game but DA messed every single one of those things up.

That was one of the most frustrating things about Allen. He came into a situation that is atypical for new head coaches. The team was going downhill, but it was still competitive. It got so much worse under his regime, He didn’t carve the turkey; he let it spoil. Now, we have the customary disaster that usually confronts new head coaches.

Yep. I've never been a fan of tear downs in the NFL, and I do think this team has more talent than the average rock bottom team, but at this point we don't really need to do a tear down. Our expensive players are older guys that are either going to retire or have their contracts expire in a year or two.

Still, the NFL is designed for parity so every team is one or two good drafts and a good head coach away from being competitive.

i think its important for us to position ourselves with a top 5 pick to take a chance at a top 2 qb in the draft as at least an option for a to be HC
