The Science of Fasting (1 Viewer)

I almost don't eat a lick of fiber anymore(outside of my twice monthly oatmeal, because I like it) and my digestion has never been better in my life that I can recall. All through most of my adult life until recently I had dealt with terrible stomach discomfort, IBS, and horrendous heartburn and GERD. Now being mostly carnivore the past 2 years I have none of that. Although I do tend to get gas and an upset stomach from the oatmeal, but I tolerate it just because I enjoy the taste so much. When I eat nothing but steak, eggs, ground beef and fish I never have a single stomach issue.
Lol never met someone so fond of oatmeal in my life.

I do agree too much insoluble fiber can be a bad thing. Soluble fiber has been shown to be critical for
cardiovascular health in many studies. It prevents LDL cholesterol from turning into plaque and sticking
to the arterial walls. After two TIA's ( mini strokes ) last year, I quit drinking alcohol and increased my intake
of fruit, nuts, and cold water fish. The fruits and nuts are good sources of soluble fiber. My doctor and I credit
my last two checkups giving me a clean bill of health was largely due to my change in diet. I also eat red meat, but
I make sure it's lean and avoid the processed crap and sources of LDL like bacon and fried foods.

Depends...pecans are only one net carb per ounce
yep and others like cashews are loaded with them. Both have been shown to reduce
blood pressure and cholesterol as much as some prescription medications. Since I'm
not on a keto diet and don't count carbs, i'm not worried. Adding a few handfuls of
unsalted nuts daily is a wise choice for cardiovascular health.

I agree but in your post you said nuts aren't keto friendly and that isn't true. You can be on keto and get those same health benefits

Love how they mention how it's working while leaving it open to research on how to make a pill to fix you rather than just saying if you don't want to be an obese gluttonous drain on the health system, stop eating the processed foods they've gotten you addicted to.

I doubt big corn will ever be brought to pay like the opioid mfg's, but they should be.

Yep, processed foods are the true evil.

I got some not so good news back in December. Turns out my liver is forked. I did some research and keto with IF and even some regular fasting (multiple days) can help fix/heal your liver so I striated doing that. I've lost about 20lbs since I started and that was with taking a 3 week trip to the Philippines. I do a 16/8 IF pretty much everyday and cut sugar and most carbs out of my diet. Now that I am back home, I am going to go strict keto and work in a 2-3 day fast once a month. I haven't decided what my goal weight is, but probably another 30lbs at least, but maybe 45lbs so I land at 205lbs which I think was my best weight in my 20s. More important than my weight is fixing my liver and getting healthy.

In reference to the article above, I do find that I am keto and IF, my mind is clear.

I had liver damage from Hep C I contracted from a blood transfusion as an infant. Once I got through my Harvoni regimen and the virus was gone, I started doing frequent 20-40 hour fasts in hopes autophagy would help heal it. Not sure if it made a difference, but at the time of my final liver screening it was back in a much healthier range.

I don’t know enough about medicine to say it made a difference or not, but I can’t imagine it hurt. And, I did lose about 20 pounds along the way.

Unfortunately, these days, I am struggling to get back into my fasting routine. I had a lot of stress last fall and dealt with it by abusing my body through over eating. I have gained back some of the weight I lost. And, even though I feel like I’m in a healthier spot mentally I am struggling to get my bearings in terms of fasting. I will just keep making attempts and I imagine one day I’ll knock out a 40 hour and after that it’ll be easier to get back into the groove. My normal IF routine is 20 hours of fasting and four hours of eating. And then I’ll throw a longer fast in every one to three weeks.
