The Taysom Hill deal was for 21 million dollars! (2 Viewers)

Every single one of those QBs except for Josh Allen you named was a much more effective player in college, against tougher competition, than Taysom Hill was.

Every single one of those players makes better decisions with the football and has shown a much higher football IQ at the quarterback position than Taysom Hill.

Lamar and Watson were first round picks for a reason. Because NFL scouts saw their production and their ability and said "that's an NFL quarterback". Hundreds of scouts watched Taysom Hill's extensive tape, and they decided that he was not an NFL quarterback to the tune of passing on him 255 times.

Him lighting it up in preseason and throwing one terribly underthrown ball to Deonte Harris in the playoffs doesn't change any of that. He has never in his life shown the ability to be an effective quarterback at a high level.

He has, as you mentioned, shown intangibles and the ability to be a great weapon. However that has absolutely nothing to do with playing QB.

You are right, but you are missing my analogy... Right now Taysom has proven more at the NFL level of competition than any rookie QB that has come out this year... or any that have not played NFL competition at this point... and the same people that would use Taysom's lack of experience playing QB at the NFL level (playing behind the best of all time) as a reason to downplay him... would not do so for a 1st round pick of the Saints at QB even though he had not picked up an NFL football yet.

And he's thrown way more passes in the regular season / post season than just the one underthrow to Harris against the Vikes (which was completed for 50 yards and resulted in a TD on the next play)... I posted some of his regular season throws that were money / beautiful... specifically one to MT13 from the pocket with pressure in his face for a ~20 yard completion in tight sideline cover for a toe drag swag... not sure why people keep bringing up this one throw as a "bad thing" (50 yard completion - coming in cold - in a playoff game - that resulted ultimately in 6 pointa).

That was my point. It's an unfair assessment, and Taysom has proven waaaay more already. My comparison to guys like Allen, Russ, and Lamar are mainly for the "style of offense we run" detractors.

Gotcha. I see where you're coming from. I just believe that those guys** you mention had proven more at the college level than Taysom has. I think to run the style of offense you're talking about, you still have to be a reasonable threat to pass the football, and Taysom has never really done that. I don't give much credit to preseason against 4th stringers.

The "let's just run the Lamar Jackson offense" notion would be a lot of fun to watch. But the problem is, while Lamar is not the most accurate QB in the NFL, he makes smart decisions with the football and doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Taysom is not as smart with the football as Lamar is. And if we know one thing about Sean it's that he doesn't like turning the ball over.

So for what you're wanting to happen to happen, Hill would have to really turn the corner in terms of not making mistakes with the football. And even in his time here, he's made the wrong decision on the RPO several times. Most of the time choosing to keep instead of give to the RB. So I'm skeptical he has the ability to improve his decision making.

But I also think expecting Winston to do the same thing is pretty unrealistic too. My guess is our future QB is not on the roster.

But if it's Hill, I'll root for him right alongside of you.

** FYI I don't think Josh Allen is very good.

i bet Jamies does what Teddy did, he will likely sign another one year deal again after this one, Hill will likely get his shot, if he fails, then Jamies will have been in the system for two years and possibly get his shot. if i was him i would, Hill is only signed for two years..

Fair enough... I think where we differ is that.... when I look at the entire NFL body of work for Taysom.... Including Pre-season and regular season throws, his ability to extend plays, his ability to out run just about anyone, his physical nature of play, his ability to take over a game in short order, and the way his teammates respond to him - rally around him - and want to make a play for him... coupled with the genius of Payton to design an offense around him (and Payton's obvious crush on him)... I think his decision making and ball security will naturally get better when his experience level gets better... I don't see how he's not the future of QB for us as long as Sean is the coach or baring something completely unforeseen.

You are jumping down another poster's throat and being insulting when the poster's point is perfectly valid, and now you're playing semantics games to try to "win". You are being annoying and trite.

No semantics. Piper explained it to him very clearly several times. He doesn’t understand it. And he won’t give it up. You jumping in and changing it to extension talk would only increase his confusion.

Money like that we should see Hill playing a couple of whole series per game, not just spot plays here and there.

I'm not going to argue that he was deserving of a top draft pick, but I am curious how many players have EVER been drafted after sustaining 4 season-ending injuries in college

I just can’t believe how many still believe SP is talking out his a$& about Taysom being the future...🤷🏻‍♂️. He’s said it quite a few times and I tend to believe him. I bet he gets significantly more snaps as QB this season and for passing plays. And I believe our 7th round pic was to complement the offensive plan (as the JOAT role) for Taysom when he’s the man.

well they said and brees said he was ok with it, hill playing 25-40% of the time under center... that and playing joker and special teams, hes gonna be out there quite a bit. we will see if he is still injury prone like in college..

People fuss about how much players get paid as if they have to sign the checks. Player spending is capped. The amount of money Taysom gets has nothing to do with ticket prices.

I’m a fan and all I care about is fun games. All I know is every time I see Taysom Hill go onto the field I think, “Hot damn, Taysom’s in there. Something’s gonna happen!” He’s fun to watch and really adds something to the Saints that they didn’t have before.
