The Taysom Hill deal was for 21 million dollars! (1 Viewer)

13 NFL passes isn't enough to convince me either, but a one year $16 million commitment if they aren't sure isn't really a big price to pay your starting QB and he could at worst help you transition to someone you take in the draft. And, we don't even know if we will be able to get a guy we like in the draft next year so maybe they just have to work out another two year prove it deal if he ends up starting next year.

Or if all goes well with Jameis hopefully they can bring him back another year at a low number to compete. I won’t feel comfortable with Taysom and Tommy Stevens.

no. It says plus 1mil in incentives. Here I’ll bold the part for you to read.

Details on Taysom Hill's contract extension with the Saints
Per Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Hill is cashing in with a two-year deal valued at $21 million, with $16 million in guarantees and another $1 million in incentives. That's an average of $10.5 million per year, with 76% of the new money guaranteed.

No. It says its a $21 million deal with $16 million guaranteed and another $1 million in incentives. The "another $1 million" refers to in addition to the $16 million guaranteed, not to the $21 million. Anyway, this is silly and doesn't really matter. He costs what he costs. We have the money and we are a better team with him this year than without him. And if he costs $16 million next year, that may be high for an unproven starting QB, but it's only for one year and it leaves the Saints options wide open after that.

look at piper’s post. He explained it perfectly.

As far as having the money, wait until you see our cap position for next year. Once they add in Taysom we should be a good 20-25mil over the projected cap. I think 13 would fall off if Drew retires. Hopefully some restructures are built in because we’re going to need them.

I agree, ideally Winston works out and Hill either accepts his role as backup QB and jack of all trades. If he doesn't he moves on and Stevens hopefully takes over his role. Although, I honestly think the more likely scenario is that Winston leaves and we keep Hill for the year after taking a QB in the draft.

Stupid. Had him for less than 5 million or let him watch Drew on TV.

So the full number is $21 million with the incentives, not plus incentives. Also I see nothing there that indicates that he gets the other $5 million just for being on the team.
21 if he plays both seasons. Between 21 and 16 (Prorated) if he plays less than 2 seasons and is released. 22 million if he plays both seasons and meets his incentive thresholds. If they release him tomorrow he still gets $16 million.

Clear?

I'm not going to argue about it. Maybe he does get the full $21 million just from being on the team. But the max is $21 million with the incentives included. But, like I said, it really doesn't matter. He costs what he costs and his cost this year is less than $5 million. We have the money and we are a better team with him this year than without him. It could be Winston, it could be Hill works out, it could be a guy we take in the draft, or maybe we sign Deshaun Watson or another vet as a free agent. I think the least likely is Hill or Deshaun Watson, but we can always hope it works out.

I'm never really worried about the cap with Loomis. He will figure out ways to open up space whether it is reworking Thomas and Jordan or something else. He always has options to open up cap space and not having to give Warford a new contract will really help. Also I think Easton would be on the last year of his deal which I think is a pretty high number for a backup.

This should clear it up and it sounds like he actually signed his tender offer as is and then they negotiated a 1 year extension for 2021 at $16,300,000. ($16 mill guaranteed) This ladies and gentlemen is a legitimate starter's salary.

I still believe had we kept that ball in his hands in that Minnesota game, we would have won the game. This guy is special on and off the field. He is very important to our team and what we do. I think the deal is good w/ that said.

I also believe we are in good hands w/ him as our starting QB. If he is our future, our future is bright.

But you keep arguing. Does this report for Yahoo Sports clear it up?

Hill landed a deal on Sunday that is slated to pay out $21 million over the next two years. It includes $16 million in guaranteed money, along with incentives that could generate an additional $1 million.

Watch the video.

I really don't care at this point. But what it makes clear to me is that the $21 million deal includes $16 million guaranteed and $1 million in possible incentives.

Is it a coincidence that ARod and Watson will both be FAs in two years (assuming ARod opts out of his option and Houston doesn’t franchise Watson again FOR THE SECOND TIME should they do decide to franchise him next offseason)?

After the rumors of Saints and Brady having an agreement in place prior to Drew changing his mind of retirement, nothing is unrealistic to me

All I know is that I trust Sean Payton when it comes to QB’s. His approval is good enough for me.
