This could be Alvin's last year as a Saint and it would be a massive mistake by Allen (3 Viewers)

Last year, when the storm was brewing around Carmichael's playcalling, Allen mostly refrained from throwing Carmichael under the bus. There were a ton of rumblings coming from players during media interviews, but no one was more outspoken or as honest as Alvin. It wasn't nearly as bad as Michael Thomas, but Alvin didn't handle it like some of the other players. It was in that moment that I realized he didn't fit Allens new culture and I feel like the guys Allen is for, got their contracts adjusted already. I feel like Alvin hasn't been signed because Allen isn't pushing for this to be something that gets done and pronto.

I could be wrong but I sense that Alvin is a remnant from Payton's previous culture that Allen would like to move on from. It also explains why Allen is so frustrated with Kendre, because Kendre is Allen's excuse to move on in a year.

The only real mistake here is giving AK multiple more years still paying him as the 2nd best back in the league when statistically he no longer ranks in the top 12-15. Hopefully they can come to terms after the season and he finishes his career a Saint. But, if he is looking to get the same type of contract he has had recently then you have to let him go.

Who knows where he is...the line which what RBs depend on more than QBs is not good.

The scheme last year had him catching balls stationary with his back turned to the defense...since passes are being handed out for schematic and blocking failures...I figure he can get one as well

I think he's under contract for next season. His cap hit is $29 million and a dead cap of $10mil in 2025. The Saints have finagled his contract but now they are having to pay it to finish it out. I would like to see him retire with the Saints. Let's hope he wants to also.

Well if AK wants that extraordinary contract he better get a 1k year with TD value.

Cause he's not the first 3 years Kamara anymore.
You’re right, he’s not the AK41 from his first 3 years. He may even be a better version of that?!?! Wouldn’t know if he isn’t in a system that allows him to be. If CMC could have his best season just last year, then there is a way AK41 could not do the same.

Would hate to lose him, but a multi year contract with lots of guaranteed money would be a bigger mistake in my opinion
I think the real mistake was paying Cam Jordan prior to last season, only to see him fall off a cliff. Now were tightening our belts and Kamara is having to pay for it.

The other option, and I think the simpler one, is that the team doesn't want to risk paying a big, long contract to a 30 year-old RB when they are running a scheme that traditionally makes average RBs look like very good RBs. I think it's the same thought process as your position that they aren't going to spend big on the OL because the scheme allows you to play with average OL talent and make it look better. And it's much easier to find very good to average RBs than it is to find even an average guy on the OL.

Kamara is probably my second favorite guy on the team behind Cam Jordan, but there is a point where a new contract for him doesn't make sense. From what was said when the contract issues first came up, it's not so much about the money, it's about how long Kamara wants the contract to be. I think they would and should do a 2 year deal for around $8 million AAV, but any more years or much more money and it probably doesn't make sense for this team.

It might make sense for a contender that needs one final piece at RB, but not for a team in a soft rebuild. But, I'll be sad to see him go.

I agree about Cam, but do not see the correlation to AK. AK is a RB and will be a 30 year old one at that. Those are not valued in today's NFL regardless of what Cam got.

Love AK41... That said... It's obvious he's out the door after this year (if he even plays this year)... He's almost 30 - Which is the start of the RB death spiral with almost no exceptions... and the Saints are not giving him another contract for what "he thinks he's worth"... And it won't be a mistake by Dennis Allen... but I would be willing to place any blame upon him for nearly anything so he can be fired soon... so sure, blame this inevitable situation on Allen.. why not?
There might not be a more conditioned 30 year old athlete in the world than Alvin. Everything you typed is correct. But I won't be surprised if he has a few good years left.
