NFL Draft This is not a historically good draft. Don’t be upset if we draft Jaxson Dart high. (47 Viewers)

Highly doubt he declares next year.
I agree. The dude has not literally played any real significant time. Just because his last name is Manning doesn't necessarily mean he will light the world on fire

thats Mickey Loomis' thoughts for sure. Im just hoping that the new staff is assertive. And i hope KM's career will be determined from these draft picks. Therefore i hope he isnt swayed. KM knows offense, we're probably picking offense. If we chose Dart then that means KM made the decision, and im ok with that. I do like that Dart is from the sec and played under one of the best offensive savants in Lane. With that said, the biggest question mark is, is he really that much better than Rattler? or is any of the QBs not named Ward better than Rattler?

I'm not sure why you get the impression that the Saints aren't drafting a QB or that they are happy with Carr/Rattler. If they really loved Rattler, and knew he was the future, they likely would have cut/traded Carr and started Rattler this year.

As far as Carr, it's clear that Moore (and probably Loomis) want him as the starting QB this year, but I don't think we have any indication of commitment beyond this year. And, if there was, I think they would have extended his contract for a year or two instead of doing the standard restructure this year. That and there is info out there that Carr wants to be traded so even if we want him, he may not stay.

So, I think if they find a QB in this draft that they like and they like the cost in terms of the pick used or the cost to move up to get him, they would draft a QB. I don't see any reason why they would not.

I think he's a real possibility at 40.... Not 9....

40 seems to be a good spot to take a QB you like and think you can coach up, especially if that guy has some running ability. None of the QBs outside of Ward look like first round prospects, but 40 is the perfect spot to bet on upside with guys like Dart and Milroe. Or Sanders for that matter. And if they don't fall, oh well you move on to the next tier of QBs in rounds 3 or 4 or look at the draft next year.

To me, one of the real draws of Moore is his ability to get the most out of upper mid-tier/youngish QBs like Dak and Hurts. And we have built an offensive staff designed to develop young QBs. We need to start getting those guys on the roster ASAP.

Since my son goes to Ole Miss I’ve watched a lot of him the past 2 years. He’s a heck of a leader, no doubt about it and he forgets easy which is a good trait but can also be a downside when you throw 3 pics and the end of a game to keep you out the playoffs

I like Dart. It wasn't till super early January (1st week) I considered him a 1st round pick and thought he may sneak into the top 10.

If Jeanty is on the table, I still think he's our play first and foremost. Likely requiring a trade up. But if a deal doesn't get worked and sit @9 and Dart is still there, I agree, I think its a real possibility.

The only reason I give pause to any QB in this draft is because even Ward, the presumed 1st overall pick, and supposed "best" QB in this draft likely wouldn't be QB3 off the board is most other drafts. Throw in Nuss's son, Garrett, being in next years draft and we likely have Carr for 2 years, It becomes a real play. Though, planning for such a thing feels reckless since there's no guarantee the saints will be able to get him no matter how bad they may want him (or, may not want him).

But Dart is a leader first and foremost. Second, he has no problems wanting the game put on his arm and legs. He's done it many times. He's also a smart player. Kentucky was a monster of a defense this year, and when he played against them he kept his head on a swivel and made smart plays very often. He didn't put up monster numbers (pretty much no QB does). But if you want to watch a game where your offense is getting dominated and the QB has to play very smart under constant pressure, that's the game to watch.

There’s a middle ground here, they could be fine with the QB room being Carr/Rattler/Haener, but then nobody can take their eyes off what Rattler is doing in Moore’s system while he’s on the field. Things can change quickly if he dazzles. I think the likelihood has to be “low but possible” to keep expectations tempered, and certainly not the foregone conclusion madness on display in the first TB game last season when he led touchdown drives of 30 and 10 yards and people were tweeting pictures of moving vans to Derek Carr. Agree with the rest below.

Rattler is no longer a rookie and Moore had plenty of tape of Rattler against NFL competition. If Moore thought Rattler was the guy, we'd be going with him. But it doesn't appear to be so, unless the Saints are planning on trading Carr for draft capitol and the Carr restructuring was all one big giant misdirection (which is highly unlikely). What I can say for certain, is there is more reason to believe the Rattler experiment is over then not.

And yes, Dart and even McCord are better QB's then Rattler. Including Dillion Gabriel.

It's tough to find franchise QB's, that's why people reach for them so often. It might be the toughest spot in sports to fill.

In my opinion, Cam Ward is the only QB in this class worth a first-round grade, but who knows what the Saints have planned?

We'll find out.

Nah, i think you're downgrading Rattler. Rattler has the most important attribute, and thats mental toughness. He can bounce from play to play robotically like Drew Brees. (not effected one play to the next) He's not perfect. But he's as good as good as the other QB's in the draft. And we know for 100% sure he wont bust like Haener under the lights.

Taking Dart at 9 would be a reach. Maybe not a waste of the pick but I think you could trade back Ang get another pick and Dart. So it would actually be a waste of a pick.
We need to stop wasting picks, by trading up or reaching for somone too high. We need to start taking BPA and getting great value for our picks.
If you like him enough to get him in the mid-1st, I don’t think you get cute and trade back. There have been many people saying he may be the 2nd QB off the board…and if that’s true you can miss him getting cute. I personally like Dart more than Sanders

The same people hyping Dart as a first round pick hyped Ridder, Corral, Willis and Howell as first round picks a few years ago. Dart's in the same tier of QB. For every Hurts there's ten guys that don't work out.

Taking one of them in the 2nd or 3rd round is forgivable. Taking one at 9 and they don't pan out will get a GM and coach fired because you're forced to stick with them due to their draft status. Only team that got away with it was the Cardinals and that's only because they had the first pick the following year.

I don’t know if it would be for Jeanty, but I could certainly see us dangling one of our two 3rds to move up the board a bit for someone.
