NFL Draft This is the deepest edge class I’ve ever seen. (51 Viewers)

I glossed over Mike Green initially bc I’m sick of the Saints drafting small school guys, but he is the most polished pass rusher in this class. His only fault is he lacks long arms.

The 4 players at pick 9 in order are

1. Tetairoa McMillian or T-Mac WR AZ
2. Mason Graham DI Michigan
3. Tyler Warren TE Penn State
4. Walter Nolen DI Ole Miss

Walter Nolen and Warren are likely to be available at 9 but if the staff aren’t as high on these guys i hope we trade down. My fear is that they pick an edge rusher like Mykel Williams who wasn’t very productive. A guy like him could turn out ok but like
I said there’s vslue at edge rusher into the 3rd-4th round.

Is JaXson Dart worth a first or high second? He can make all the throws and he fits Kellen Moore’s offense that incorporates RPOs and misdirection plays. .
T-Mac or Warren are my lock it in picks for the Saints next year. We share the same projections but instead of Nolen I would put an OL or Malaki Starks.

Mike Green is the real deal he is not Peyton or Davenport, who were both projects coming out of college. Green is a lock it in pick if we switch to the 3-4.

I seen you put Jaxon Dart who I would love to have but to be honest I think with Moore as HC we would more likely be incline to draft Jalen Milroe to tbh, due to his similarities with Jalen Hurts.

The wild card for me is that the Saints smarten up and call the Patriots and trade for QB Joe Milton III, 6'5 250lbs Cam Newtown clone throwing to WR1 T-Mac WR2 Shaheed WR3 Olave. Our defense would be trash but we would at least be exciting to watch on offense. Our OL wouldn't need to be as good either with a dual threat qb.

I can tell you as an Ole Miss fan and watching Dart the last three years, I wouldn't think about him til at least the 3rd Round. Yes, he can run, yes he is tough as nails, but he also has a verrry bad habit of trying to hit deep shots on what seems like every pass play. He locks in on his first receiver and if he isn't open it's time to take off and run. He's got a decent arm but not a cannon.

I've read on the OM message boards (so take this as you will) that that is pretty much all LK asked him to do, make 1 read. It's said by the guys that cover OM for 247Sports and on3.com that the film room will be where his draft position is decided. Can he explain to NFL coaches the progression of NFL pass plays from option 1 through the progression to the checkdown to the RB?

Which brings me to another thing. It drove us OM fans crazy that he would throw into double and triple coverage on a 30+ yard pass instead of hitting his TE (who on numerous occasions would be wide open by up to 5 yds) 6-8 yds downfield or checking down to his RB for a 2-5 yard gain. It's like a checkdown was his kryptonite.

Now, can these problems be coached out of him? Possibly. But Kiffin couldn't get him out of these bad habits (assuming he would want to) so I don't know if another coach can.

So 3rd round or later? Probably. Anything earlier than that would be a mistake, IMHO.
One would think the middle of the field was off limits. The low % deep sideline throws still give me nightmares. He also has a tendency to hold onto the ball for too long, which led to a good chunk of his sacks. Most of his gaudy stats this year came against lesser competition too. He had a tendency to melt down under pressure this year.

Love the kid, but we have so many holes, that I don't think we should even spend a 3rd on a QB in this draft.

Not just edge. This draft is incredibly deep everywhere. We have so many 3rd and 4th round projections that would be easy 2nd rounders in just about any other draft. Jared Ivey. Norman-Lott. Jermiah Harris. Jay Higgins. Jake Majors. Luke Lachey. It's absolutely silly.

I know a lot of people aren't big on Deone Walker, but I think he's going to creep into the 1st round, possibly even top 15. He's absolutely dismantling blockers at the Senior Bowl and just can't be stopped. And he's doing it from NT and Edge, even standing up.
I beg to differ. The talks of this draft being deep at WR is a farce to me. I don’t see a handful of impact guys. I mainly see guys who will have to fit the perfect system for them to even be a factor

I think it depends on position. I agree with you on WR. I'm not wowed by the pool. Even the top guys have question marks to their games. O-Line seems very mediocre this year, especially with all the really good OTs last year.

But I think RB is much deeper this year than the last few years. Many really good prospects. And TE seems quite strong as well.

I think Tez Johnson could be one of the best WR to come out of this draft and he can be had in the 4th.

We might have to agree to disagree. Heres a quick list of guys that can go anywhere and be good I believe. Of course QB play will depict success. (stars are IMO the best ones)

* Tetairoa McMillan
Luther Burden
* Emeka Egbuka
Tre Harris
* Xavier Restrepo
Isaiah Bond
* Jayden Higgins
* Jalen Royals
Kyren Lacy
Jack Bech
Andrew Armstrong (I have him tagged as my sleeper WR)

I don't see this class as a deep draft....

It's not, but this happens every year around this time. The draft becomes incredibly deep at the positions people think the Saints need. During the draft when the Saints pass on "I had him ranked super high!" player at [insert position], the same people will freak out. It's highly entertaining to watch though.

Yes it is over drafting but that’s what has to be done to get a QB in the building. Our future QB is not on the roster so we gotta take a swing. Can’t hit a home run if you don’t swing.
Correct. Also QB is consistently the most over drafted position there is. It’s that important.

It happens every year with teams reaching for a QB, but it doesn't work out as much as they would like.
From recent memory, Trey Lance, Brandon Weeden, Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, Zack Wilson, EJ Manuel, Daniel Jones, Paxton Lynch, Christian Ponder, Dwayne Haskins (RIP), Jake Locker, Johnny Manziel, Mac Jones, Blake Bortles, Justin Fields, Carson Wentz, Josh Rosen, Ryan Tannehill, Blaine Gabbert.

Compared to some other teams that didn't trade up for QB's that have been a success from recent memory, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Brock Purdy, Lamar (late first round pick), Drew Brees (2nd round pick), and of course Tom Brady

All I'm saying is that just because you trade up, doesn't mean it's going to work out.
