This team needs Jon Gruden right now (1 Viewer)

Uh, you mean Buddy Ryan.....(Rex's dad).....Agreed he was a terrible HC here....
Ditka was a decent coach in his day. That day had passed by the time he got to NOLA … but it is true that Buddy’s defense was the reason the 85 Bears were so good

Gruden is better that DA for sure, but bringing in Gruden doesn’t mean we will get back what Payton brought to the table. Payton is on another level and the only coaches in his league right now are Andy Reid and Mike Tomlin IMO. We may never have a coach as great as Payton ever again.
Aaron Glenn isn't on that level either, and I don't think Carr and Glenn will get along.

I like Gruden. I asked the question yesterday, in another thread, what was his nfl banishment all about…. I wasn’t paying too much attention to it when it was happening. The more I research it, the more I find flaws like the bounty gate evidence. I am not a fan of cancel culture, especially based to specific interpretations of what was said and in what context. In my opinion, there is Lots of grey area with what he said racially. Now, with that said, I think that any team that hires Gruden will go on the NFL crap list and we all know how that feels. No matter what you do, there will be a moment where the NFL powers at hand will remind you what it is like to defy them.
NFL is gonna lose the DEI fight over time because the message is out...nationally.

I'm not on board with Gruden. He rode the coattails of a Tony Dungy team to the Super Bowl only to face his former team who still used all of his plays.

After the Super Bowl win, Gruden didn't really do much with the Bucs after that.

Yes, the Saints need discipline and toughness but Gruden and his yelling will wear thin quick. Plus, the Saints don't need any more negative press at all. Gruden would be a circus......
We're already getting negative press as it is.

We will never be a good team again as long as ML is treating the head coach position like it’s just an upper team management position. It’s unheard of that a GM decides who he wants as position coaches first, then leverages in a head coach. (By leverage I mean the GM tells the coach “ you can have the job If you do this or that”) This is why DA seemed weak, like a yes man and without ability to enforce accountability. Part of being the head coach is having full control. Anyway, I’m hoping that’s not what’s going on behind the scenes.
SP had full control of this team and ML gave it to him. DA was just not a good HC. His speeches lacked fire, play calling lacked guts, he threw players under the bus, routinely put players in wrong fit positions who went on to do well at other teams, and the fact he wanted Deshaun Watson was the biggest red flag ever. I think he’s a talented DC but not head coach material.

Gruden just doesn’t seem like a current thought leader in the game and would be distracting in all the wrong ways IMO.

Jon Gruden would be a bad hire by the Saints for all the aforementioned social reasons (this team does not need another coach who has recently been in the league’s crosshairs at his own doing)

What I will say, being a mere fan in the stands amongst other fans in the stands, is the way some of you cavalierly dismiss the racism he espoused when there are exact quotes are available for anyone to read is pretty disgusting. “Oh well Iiiiiiiiiii didn’t find it racist, it’s not like he said the N word” but everybody here is grown enough to know that racism is more than just saying the N word. Do better.

i think that Gruden was setup. It's much to do about nothing........and it wasn't something done while coaching."he who is without sin, cast the first stone".....We need the discipline that he brings. now i would like him to still have an OC and collaborate to bring his offense up to date.....but we NEED A LEADER OF MEN. not an offensive or defensive mind.
Yeah, he was canceled during the height of cancel culture which has since been canceled. The NFL (Goodell) wanted to make an example out of someone which they have a history of doing (Saints/Bountygate) and Gruden was an easy target since he questioned Goodell's manhood by calling him a pursy. Let's not get it twisted, it had nothing to do with race, Goodell got his feelings hurt. It's the same reason why Goodell went after SP for telling him to go fork himself with the Vicotin issue. Goodell is a petty, weak man and a power hungry dictator.

Yeah because the Mayock/Gruden brain trust was so great at building a team in Oakland.
I am not saying we should hire gruden by any means but he had that team going upwards just a lot of stuff happened that made everything downward spiral, His time in oak he was 4-12, 7-9, 8-8 and 3-2 when he got fired. Also in that time they signed AB who at the time was gonna make that team be better then he went crazy and got let go before season started, Then a couple of years later Henry Ruggs went out and drunk drove and killed someone. So not saying he was gonna take that team to a superbowl but he had them in the right direction, But that team had a lot going on which led to their downfall. I actually feel bad for them for that period of time 2019 to 2021 for what happened. But I also don't have a lot of faith in loomis picking the right person either, But I am a fan so will root whoever he chooses to coach us and hopefully who ever it is can get us out of this rut.

Not a big fan of hiring Gruden. However, we put ourselves in the awkward position of having no coach and if Gruden is the best available, we may have to.
