its easy to say this now. gruden has a lot of ditka'ish parallels. Mostly, the game has possibly passed gruden by too.Age wasn’t the problem with Ditka. He was a bad coach that had been buoyed by Rex Ryan.

Up until this point I have been anti-Gruden.
The team needs a massive youth movement that goes for players and coaches. Gruden as a washed up, has been, retread coach doesn't give you that. His only asset was he can motivate. The decade in the booth left him out of touch with today's player, so he doesn't even bring that to the table. Gruden as a coach is just not good and arguably never was. He is a poor choice and if hired I wouldn't expect much.
All that said he may be our only option.
Reading the tea leaves in reports, comments and articles tell me we may well have no choice but to hire him. Our options may be few and sadly provides the most bang for the buck.
Our cap situation, aging roster and massive amount of players coming off major injuries will leave us we with serious issues getting a decent hire. Now, that may be something money CAN buy! If we were to give a coach say a fully guaranteed deal (most if not all are that) for say a 5 year period maybe we could get a decent hire but we are gonna have to pay premium.
Honestly, this rebuild is going to take so long the 2 coach hire may be the play to make. A guy like Gruden would be a decentish hire in that situation. He can come in with his phoney rah rah chew glass nonsense while the rebuild is underway and likely after a season or two he can be replaced by our next forever coach.
It’s not a great situation to be in but in a few seasons time will be in better shape.
The better choice is to just pay whoever we want stupid money. If we can pay people not even on the roster 30 mill why not pay stupid money to whoever we want as a coach or maybe take a chance on an unknown and hope it works out like Payton.
I like Gruden…I wouldn’t mind seeing him as our coach.Look at how undisciplined this team has been since coach Payton left. We need a coach with fire, who will demand respect, an alpha, and one who studies every detail of the game, along with their x and o’s knowledge. That screams Jon Gruden. Everyone else mentioned has a personality of Dennis Allen and will just be Yes Men to Loomis. Let Gruden run it for a couple years until we get out of this cap situation and make the most out of what we have now and also help demand excellence from the incoming rookie classes and lay a foundation for whatever coach may come in afterwards. DA has destroyed that and we need it back badly. It’s crazy how the broncos looked from year 1 to year 2 and you can see the players play hard and respond well to SP. we need to that right now in the worst way on this current team.
That’s what scares me about him. I can see that happening all over again. Including the stupid drafting but for him he would trade up in the first to take a QB from somewhere like App State that no one ever heard of before.its easy to say this now. gruden has a lot of ditka'ish parallels. Retread coaches only ever work when you have a skill that makes you an elite coach. Like Sean Payton and Andy Ried with the play calling or an administrator like Parcells or Belichick. Gruden has none of that he can make stupid sounds and say crazy things that translates right?Gruden would be a terrible hire. I'm adamantly opposed to retreads. The only available former HC I'd give serious consideration to is Vrabel.
I'd rather hire a young, hungry coordinator with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove.
I don’t disagree at all it’s a wasted hire at this stage he brings nothing to the table. You know exactly what you’re going to get your going to hover around .500. Maybe at best luck into the playoffs as a junk division winner or if the NFC is weak the last wild card slot. That’s your best result. Your worst result? You might be picking first overall.I'd hire a young unknown coach before hiring Gruden. Gruden is at best only going to get you mediocrity which is the reason we fired DA. If you can't get one of the top guys just take a chance on a young unknowns like Brady, Moore, or Kafka. They will either flame out which will give you the picks to rebuild and get a QB high or they exceed expectations and turn out great. There just isn't any reason to tread water for 3 years with Gruden when you can take a lottery ticket on a young unproven coach.
And if that young unproven coach is a disaster, Loomis goes and we rebuild the team from the ground up. Gruden is only going to at best prolong the 7 to 9 win seasons and will have some worse seasons depending on injuries. Gruden just isn't the answer to anything.
i think that Gruden was setup. It's much to do about nothing........and it wasn't something done while coaching."he who is without sin, cast the first stone".....We need the discipline that he brings. now i would like him to still have an OC and collaborate to bring his offense up to date.....but we NEED A LEADER OF MEN. not an offensive or defensive mind.I agree, now that it looks like everything is lining up for Vrabel to go to NE, Gruden is who we need for all the reasons you mentioned and more. Gruden loves football and the NFL, there's not doubting his passion about the sport. Many people disappear after being canceled, yet Gruden remade himself after some time away. He's worked as a consultant for the Saints. Rumors are the we almost hired him last year. He wants back in the NFL. That's what we need. It's obvious he wants to rewrite his legacy. If we hire him, it could be one of those lifetime hires where he stays until he retires. He will want to create/expand his coaching tree so he'll bring in guys to renew and revitalize his offensive system, he'll also bring in a DC to give the defense an identity.
