ooohhhhhh…bc ‘ginger’

eta - fwiw
Circumstantially, it was in the late 18th century and the 19th century, during which ginger came to mean “red-haired” or “red-plumed” according to the OED citation in Amanda's answer, that the British occupied parts of Malaysia (among other countries), and started coming into regular contact with the Red Ginger.
Okay, well, why was she always dancing backwards? Why didn't she tell Fred to flake off after her feet started bleeding? Talented, yes, but I have ishes with Mr. Astaire.

ETA: Swing Time is my fav movie of theirs. Never failed to watch it when they used to play it all the time.

This is like, almost creepy to watch.

A point to be taken from that, for me at least, is some people risk it all to actually live life. You could die tomorrow in a car accident. At least these guys were chasing a dream when they went and weren't just doing a mundane daily task. You just never know which day might be yours. I'm not a risk taker but I'm glad there's people out there that are.

Except for the 19 yr old who didn't want to go but only did so to please his Titantic-obsessed dad...

I'm guessing you don't have a 19 year old kid. I do.....actually until today when he turned 20. My 19 year old ain't doing sheet unless he wants to do it.

Not all 19 year olds are the same. Some want to make their parents happy and do stuff for their sake. Others do what they want. I got 4 kids 19+. They mostly do what they want because I tell them they don't need to worry about me. But they still do stuff for my sake sometimes.

Today, I managed to get all 4 of them to watch a movie with my wife and I. That doesn't happen often. :hihi:

That 19 year old would have had the ultimate flex if the trip was successful. "I went to the Titanic, what did you do?"

You're correct, I don't have kids, but I was going by an article I read a day ago where the kid's aunt stated that he was terrified to go, but apparently his mom said something different as I just did a googlez search a few min ago, so who knows...

What do the following things have in common?:
Dancing backwards, a history lesson in ginger; the color, not the root,
a sunken submersible , Fred and Ginger.

Nothing, absolutely nothing.

The award for topic veering goes to Guido and Mad Marsha
May you both live long and ramble often🏆🏆

According to his mother, she was supposed to be there but gave her seat to her son who begged her and really wanted to go.

I'm still convinced that he only went for one of two reasons...to please his father or for a bonding moment. I don't think he really wanted to go, but felt he "had" to go. In the end, it doesn't really matter. He went of his own free will. Sad story. And if his mom IS right, then she has to live with whatever feelings she has about it. She lost a husband and son. I don't know what would be going thru my mind if I were in her shoes.
