Todays Presidential "statement of the day".... (1 Viewer)

Bush and his cronies or just oblivious to the problems the regular guy faces. It's like Marie Antoinette in a presidents suit. The people don't have any bread to eat, Well let them eat cake!

For something as critical to the economy as gas I don't think he should need to pump it to know whats going on.
I pump my own gas, drive by no less than a dozen gas stations on my way to and from work and I couldn't tell you what gas prices are other than around $3 and it's been around $3 for over a year now.

It doesn't really matter. I have to have it no matter what it cost, so the current price is inconsequential.

The political bias of some of you dingbats makes me laugh on a daily basis.

Political bias? No I am opposed to one certain individual administration. This one we currently have. Since this is about how Bush is out of touch on gas prices I will leave it at that.

As far as calling me a dingbat, ok....

If you think the president of this country doesn't know what the cost of a gallon of gas is,(like him or not) then you shouldn't be writing comments on a public forum.

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."
-- Mark Twain

then he shouldnt be giving press confrences....

Your not the President.

Please believe everything you read in the media. Please.

p.s. Do you think George Bush or his administration determines the price of gas? I am not biased towards either party, just lauging how many of you have your political horse blinders on, especially during election time.

Huh? It wasnt written, it was said by the president at his press conference, then written.Do you drive or walk?

And no W and his administration do not "determine" the price of gas. What they are supposed to do is pay freakin attention to the economic marketplace. They just signed off on a $161 Billion Dollar "economic stimulus" package that , if gas hits $4, will not diddly squat for our economy. Just another case of wasteful spending, propping up the Republican party in an election year.

Its funny that you would accuse us, the citizens, of having blinders on. When in fact our commander in chief cant see anything unless its 2 ft from his nose in front of him. Thats why he is a "Reactionary" President and not a "visonary" type to head things off. He reacts once they happen. Problem is that by the time he reacts the damage is done or the momentum has begaun and its hard to stop. Come back in the middle of summer and we will see whose laughing then.

The national average right now for unleaded gas is $3.16. Not that it won't happen, but gas prices would have to rise another 27% for it to get to $4 when the cost of crude oil is at an all time high. If you listen to the news conference, he doesn't say that he doesn't know what the cost of gas is, but that he hasn't heard that "experts" predict the prices to go up to $4/gallon.

Again, like him or not, but if you think the existing administration does not know about the price of gas, then it is not me calling you out, its yourself.

Better yet, come back in the summer of 2009, when tax incentives are cut from the majors. Think refining & exploration are slow now. Think gas prices are high now. We will be paying what folks in UK are paying. $5-6 a gallon. With the political circus, and the crude capacity vs. utilization uncertainties, we can only hope for the best at this point.

Unfortunately not. It hurts me to put $60 in my SUV like it does every other middle class American. It just seems that I am more of a realist than you. Look at the prices of gas in other countries with substantially lower GDP figures. The reason it seems like gas prices are rediculous to us today is that they stayed in the $1 range for so long while other consumer products increased in price with inflation. From the 1980 to 2000, gas prices stayed in a relatively small range compared to years prior. We got spoiled with those prices and now that they are closer to what the rest of the oil consuming world is paying, we get to scream bloody murder to our administration.

"Gasoline prices in the United States, which have recently hit record highs, are actually much lower than in many countries. Drivers in some European cities, like Amsterdam and Oslo, are paying nearly 3 times more than those in the U.S.

The main factor in price disparities between countries is government policy, according to AirInc, a company that tracks the cost of living in various places around the world. Many European nations tax gasoline heavily, with taxes making up as much as 75 percent of the cost of a gallon of gasoline, said a spokesperson for AirInc."
