Trade back into the 1st. (1 Viewer)

Did we trade away our 1st rd pick for someone and i missed it? How do you trade BACK into the first if you haven’t left it to begin with?

Do you mean further back into the 1st round, or did I miss something and we traded away our 1st round pick?

I feel this draft is deep in our main area of need...WR. if anything, I would trade back into the second round and pick up an extra second this year and a first next year.
It would allow is to draft WR, OT and either TE or RB before the end of the third round.
Next year's draft should have a better crop of QB's and give us another year to evaluate Winston and Book. Drafting a QB this year seals the fate of both current QB's on our roster as failures. We need players drafted to be on the field now!
Just my two cents😉

Do you think it would be wise to try to trade back into the 1st round so we could get a elite OT and WR? Even if cost a 1st and another pick next year?

You must be new here

Trading back and the Saints are words that are said in the same sentence lol

They will probably trade up at some point like they do every year.

Especially with the addition of a couple extra thirds and the potential of some more compensatory picks next year

Ingram was a major part of the Saints' identity regardless of rings.

And regardless of that, I'm not saying I like or dislike that trade or the idea of it again in the future. I'm saying there's historical precedent and with our GM.

Yeah...I don't think Ingram was a bad trade up...I mean, he is our all time leading rusher, that's gotta mean something
And it is hard to really hold that against him when he was part of a RB by committee and our defense was so bad that we were always playing from behind.

I agree with pretty much everything you said.

But I must say none of that is going to happen lol. By none I mean, firstly trading back in the first never really gets you a 1st next year. It will get some 2nds and 3rds in the present and future drafts, but not a first.

Secondly the Saints never trade back. They are allergic, and I don't really expect it to change just bc DA is our head coach.

Although it could, I wouldn't hold my breath.

One can hope though

I would only do this if I knew for a fact that Sean Payton was coaching next year and we could fetch 2 first round drafts picks for him.

Everyone is banking on CSP coming back to coach, I really think he just might stick to the TV thing and be the next Cowher or Jimmy Johnson

Unless we go 1-15.... We aren't going to be in contention for rookie QB next year
But if you keep next years first, it is an option to move there if need be. If you trade it this year there is no way you have enough capital to move up that far.

The only way I trade back up this year is if someone takes a colosal fall down the board.

I love the fact that we have had willingness to be aggressive in drafts but you have to pick your spots for it.

It appears to me we have most of the starters on offense and defense lines up. However, several of those starters are in the twilight of their careers. What the Saints appear to need is development players who could step in as starters in the next few years as replacements. The Saints could drop back 5-10 places in round one and still get a quality receiver and maybe pick up a late 2nd and 3rd rounder. That would give them 6 picks in the 1st three rounds which would provide good depth and cut down on the need to go to free agency for more expensive talent. A year or two of seasoning and jelling, and they could step right in as replacements.

I think it is important to note that Ingram was trying to play on turf toe his 1st few years here. A lot of folks thought he was a bust, it appeared that he couldn't cut, lacked quickness and just kind of tried to power his way through.....In 2013 he was finally completely healthy and it began to show....I think in the end it was a good trade for us....

Ingram didnt succeed until the Saints switched to the zone run game at which Ingram excels
