Trevor Penning will work at LT and RT during OTAs (OTA update: Penning moved to RT) (4 Viewers)

If any of what they say about Fuaga is true, it’s not a test but will be him at LT and Penning at RT, assuming the latter can play ok. That’s not super terrible, with McCoy, Ruiz, and the new signing at LG

I'm no DA fan, but testing things out in OTAs/preseason is totally fine. Especially with a new O scheme. Figure out which puzzle pieces fit best in which spots to get the best team on the field.
Which is all that is going on here, outside of Ruiz and McCoy there is a battle for who gets the LT, LG and RT spots and it is the coaches job to see who fits best where.

I just hope Penning finds a position that he can do well at and start. Whether that is LT, RT or LG, I just want to see him perform well and be a quality starter.
He is a draft pick, so we all hope he contributes its only helps the team that he works out or any draft pick or signee for that matter.

I think Trevor will be our RT and Fuaga our LT. McCoy at Center, Ruiz at RG and the new guy at LG.

I'm pulling for Penning. There going to give him every chance to earn a starting job. I am hopeful the new coaching staff can get him going.

The real issue is when your left tackle gets hurt and you have to shift players around. Right tackle is easier to replace then left tackle, so having your second best tackle playing there seems to be a good thing. For this reason both players need to know both positions, your third tackle can replace the right tackle when shifting them around or if you get an injury to the right tackle.

For these reasons I do not care that they are both being looked t at both positions. It’s smart football.

Say what yall want in this thread, but our OL is in trouble. Saints messed up by not resigning Peat. With Peat the Saints could of had: Peat, Patrick, McCoy, Ruiz, Fuaga. <-------That OL is slightly above average.

Hey, what do you know, we agree on something.....I think not re-signing Peat was a mistake as well....I hope we are both wrong, but I'm not comfortable with the personnel we have at oline.....hopefully we aren't done there yet....

Lets remember that Fuaga is also still a rookie; pump the breaks on him becoming the savior at LT until he plays against NFL defensive lineman
Lol, it's not about him being the savior it's bout him being the most talented option. If anyone is going to save that position based on what's available and what we know about the other candidates it's gotta be him. Now can he do it, well that's up for grabs but I mean who else can? Good OT's aren't available on the market this time a year so there isn't going to be a single veteran available that's going to solidify it.

So I guess rather than lets remember Fuaga it's a rookie, it's more like lets not forget al the other options aren't optimal based on available data.

I guess you could see it that way, I had him as a priority resigning but it was only because he made it a less troublesome spot. It wasn't because I expected great or even good play from him. He def wasn't a scheme fit, which at this point I think is more important than quelling a fear. So yeah, I get your point but he was more of a bandaid than anything.
