***TROPICAL ALERT*** TROPICAL STORM ETA (Late season tropical outlook discussion) (4 Viewers)

Sorry to hear that man, glad it's back for you now.
It's crazy how much damage there was over here. I didn't expect this at all, but didn't factor in just how many pine trees there are here.

Amen. I don't know anything about trees but the way this tree leans scares the heck out me.

Power’s back in part of Terrytown on the West Bank. Close to Belle Chasse Hwy & Wall Blvd.

I'd imagine the best solution is to bury all the power lines. It just seems to make sense in a place that gets hurricanes. That being said, I'd imagine our very wet soil and below sea level status makes putting power lines underground more of a challenge than we might think. Also, given the issues the City has with roads and the sewerage and water system, it probably wouldn't get any better if they were digging to bury and repair power lines. Not to mention the damage that would be cased to both the roads and water/sewer lines by all that digging. But, of course, lots and lots of money would fix all those problems. Money that the City doesn't have and that Entergy won't spend because they would never be able to raise their rates high enough to make the money back.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that New Orleans East was built with underground powerlines.

Might not be all of New Orleans East ... but looking at Entergy’s outage map right now, almost the entire are north of I-10 between Bullard and Paris Rd have power right now.

Power back in Lakeview for me. Still spotty in the 70124. Not soon enough to save the fridge contents, but I think I saved some frozen seafood. Turned the freezer into an ice chest and kept packing ice in there.

Our freezer did great. 48 hour outage, no real melting of anything Ice cream got soft, but I don’t think it separated and got ruined. Will check and see later.

I had power for about 15 seconds tonight before hearing the noise of more transformers popping off and some weird shrieking noises outside. One block over has had power since last night. My kids are losing their minds.

96L continues west over the central Caribbean Sea.

The convective pattern with 96L continues to be well organized with a ball of deep convection and a couple of curved bands on the east side of the system. There is no evidence of a closed low level center at this time, but the system is very close to tropical depression status and it would not require much for the system to become a tropical depression. As 96L moves westward and slows down, along with a decrease in the easterly trade winds, conditions will become more favorable for development and a closed low level center will likely form. Where this center forms and how quickly 96L approaches central America will have some bearing on the track of the system. For now a slower westward track is expected over the southwest Caribbean Sea and there remains some question as it if 96L comes under the influence of a building high pressure ridge over the southern plains and if pushed into central America or is pulled northward by a trough toward the middle to end of next week and threatens Cuba and FL.
