Tyler Warren vs Mason Taylor (2 Viewers)

Mason Taylor is going in the top half of the 2nd round. So it's not like we think he's a scrub if we say Warren is better. But Warren was a lot more productive as a receiver, he's a better blocker, and his run after the catch/ direct snap ability is better than Taylor.

Having said that, he is not a Brock Bowers prospect. So if anyone is selling that, don't buy it.

No Colston Loveland love? He isnt as complete as Warren, but in my opinion, that dude is the best receiver of all the TEs in this class. He has a ridiculous amount of untapped potential & i firmly believe that his best football will be in the pros. I mean, he was in a run first Harbaugh O, then was on an O depleted of talent & rolling w/a BS QB situation. Loveland reminds me of Sam Laporta. He may not be the most versed blocker, but he makes up 10 fold as a playmaker in the passing game. We need a go to gotta have it contested catch, chain moving, RZ mismatch guy in the worst way & Colston Loveland is that exact kind of guy.

But between Warren & Taylor, it’s easily Warren in every single way. I like Mason Taylor though. There’s a bunch of TEs in this class.

Would love to get Mason Taylor in the 3rd, with so many other great receiving options at LSU I don't think he was featured as much as he could have been in the passing game.....but in clutch time he came through it seems every time.....

Really want to see his cone and shuttle measures (quickness)....

I'm not sure that Nuss is really a better QB than Allar. In addition, Penn State really had no other options and LSU did so that explains a lot of the production.

Warren is going to be a very good TE, and a better all around TE than Taylor, but I don't think he's going to be a game breaker in the mold of Bowers.
Agree 100%

Warren will be good but he's nowhere near the level of Bowers as a receiving option. Hes also not a natural hands catcher which is a gripe I have with his game.

There seems to be a love affair with Tyler Warren and I’m curious as to why it appears he’s on a different level on this board.

I’ve watched Taylor quite a bit and I find his game impressive and not used nearly enough.
Considering our willingness to pass on Brock Bowers last year, I suspect the organization doesn’t value TE as a position worth using a high draft pick on. This knowing Bowers was a generational level talent.

Warren nor Taylor are in Bowers stratosphere, I doubt they’ll take the former early, but I could see them taking the latter if he’s available in a later round

Brock went 13th and the Saints drafted 14th, so I wouldn't say they "passed" on Bowers, they just weren't willing to trade up for him. Either that or there wasn't an oportunity to trade up. I'd love to have drafted Bowers, same as the other 31 teams that didn't get him. But I am glad we stayed put and did not trade away draft picks. We need more players, not fewer... regardless of how good they are.

As far as not drafting a TE in the high first round... We've had almost two decades of Sean Payton and Sean Payton tree guys who did everything they could to maintain the status quo. New year new me new regime now. I can't see Loomis picking against Moore's wishes here. The only question is how Moore looks at draft picks, positional value, and how he wants to build his team. Regardless of who his QB ends up being, last season made it painfully obvious that we have a serious lack of ball catchers.

With that being said, it's still possible that Moore decides to draft extremely large humans in the first two rounds ala Payton/Parcells, etc... Can't argue against that either. We have a serious lack of extremely large humans as well.

I also seem to remember something in the draft about the saints planning to pick Bowers at 14. Then when he went one pick early, they tried to trade back but couldn't find a deal so they picked the best OT available. (Same thing happened back when we took Andrus Peat)

Maybe that was rumor or speculation, but if true, it shows that our front office isn't adverse to drafting a TE in round one.

The story I saw from multiple sources is that the Saints had a deal in place with the Rams to trade back if Bowers was on the board when they picked.

Ah, gotcha. I knew I remembered something to do with Saints/Bowers and a trade.

Side note, That would likely have been Saints getting #19 and #39 with the Rams getting #14 and maybe a 6th or 7th round pick.
Would be awesome to pull off that kind of trade this year. Any two for one deal would excite me. Five top 100 picks in this draft
which is deep at a LOT of our positions of need is ideal. I'd even be cool with packaging our 4th round picks to move back up into
the 3rd round giving us 6 top 100 picks. We need a big dose of young high-end talent across the whole roster.

Another factor is last year was a better draft for OT compared to this draft whereas this draft is deep at quality or better TEs.

I’ll say it for the 1,000,000th…….I want Warren AND Taylor! The league has shifted to smaller LBs that can cover. Finding a team that can field guys who can cover two TEs is tough. Get ahead of the game. Let those two guys make each other better and it will make the job of our QB extremely easy, by providing two safety nets.
I dunno what kind of tea you drinking, Froggie ... but I like it.

Won't happen (cos I'm a hasty pessimist and all) but I like it.

I'm all about double dipping at TE innthis draft.

I would prefer a scenario like this:
9: Jeanty
40: Fannin Jr.
71: Helm or Taylor.

HFJr brings that juice to the TE position and Helm is a complete TE.

Another option after taking Fannin at 40, is to get Lachey or Ferguson later. Even the TEs out of Ga Tech and ND are complete TEs.
