Yeah, makes perfect sense, the only names on their draft board was brisker and the panic pick.

“Oh no, we only have 2 names on our ENTIRE draft board, the other team just drafted one of them. What do we do know, we have no choice but to pick the other name on the list.”

I really think everyone would be fired if they didn’t have a ranking of BPA and needs.

I’m just happy they didn’t take another no-name “look how smart we are” pick in the 1st round!

1st round picks are not meant to be rotational. Cam will be retiring in the next couple of years, so he may slide over to that side but I don't he was drafted to be just a rotational guy.

I think the point people are making was of we should have drafted someone who will start instead of Taylor. Then they pointed out Turner last year. We already have 2 starters at DE so Turner wasn’t drafted to start right away. He was taken for depth after losing another rotational pass rusher in Trey. Turner may start in year 3 or four if Cam retires or they move on from Davenport, but until then Turner will be a rotational player. Most people forget Jenkins and PJ broke in the same way. Almost the exact scouting report can play outside, slot, and safety. Jenkins went on to man the slot his first year got starts on the outside due to injuries. Then second year moved to FS behind Sharper got some starts due to injuries. Then his next year a full time starter.

If you look at all the high round corners we had drafted besides Lattimore, Porter, and Adebo they had to two good starters ahead of them and the early round guys were put in the slot and had to wait there turn. That’s all the corners Jenkins, PRob, PJ, and now Taylor

That's why I think ultimately Alontae will play some safety. He has the range to do it.

Dennis Allen has already gone on record saying that the “vision” for Marcus Maye is for him to be the SS. He also stated that the “vision” for Taylor is to remain as a boundary CB… so that means, right now, PJ Williams is your FS.

If so that may be a mistake.

Loomis stated, in his post draft conference, that they have one position that they must address because they couldn't in the draft. He wouldn't say what position, but said the press could probably guess. That position almost has to be FS. He said they would address it via FA or trade. Here is Loomis' press conference:

The only other ones outside of FS that I can think of might be TE or DT, but it's most likely FS.

Then I remembered that the Saints had signed Forrest Lamp who was drafted early in the 2nd round in the 2017 draft, and then tore his ACL and missed the entire season. Then he played in couple of games in 2018 after a minor knee procedure/cleanup, and then was a healthy scratch the rest of the season. So let's excuse 2017 and 2018 due to the ACL and recovery.

In 2019 he played in seven games before breaking his fibula, and was then placed on IR for the remainder of the season.

So now we go to 2020, where Lamp anchored the OL, and started all 16 games for the Chargers at left guard. He lead the league with 1,174 total snaps. Well, that's interesting. By the accounts I have seen, he played quite well.

Then in 2021 he signed with the Bills, and once again, got hurt early, and was placed on IR, and then released.

Now he is a Saint.

Interesting thing about Lamp, the talent is there. He just can't stay healthy, but if he can, and Ruiz doesn't pick up his play, this could/should be his replacement, as I don't think that Throckmorton is as talented or as good a player as Lamp is. Have I missed anyone?

So yeah... he likely means that we need a safety.

Safety, Defense Interior Depth, and Interior Offensive line Depth seems to be the only position come to mind for needs. Running Back, Tight Ends, and Another WR seems to be more of a Want.

I would want to bet on Trautman and Callaway to further their development. Having Taysom be a full them H-TE helps bolster the position.

Running back can always be band aid.
