Tyrann Mathieu's personal foul on the 2 pt conversion (1 Viewer)

The refs don’t follow that rule anyway. It says that “if he doesn’t immediately release it” then it’s a penalty. They throw flags if you just brush it with your hand.
Agreed. I had no problem with the call. When it happened I yelled at the screen "Bresee, you're an idiot"

I don’t think it was where he hit him that they called it was the timing of the hit. I haven’t seen a slowed down replay but watching it a couple of times at game speed, it looks like he takes 2 maybe 2-1/2 steps…. It’s borderline. But that gets called a late hit 90% of the time.

Can anyone shed some light on why his hit on Baker was a personal foul?

I saw one step and Mathieu's shoulder to Baker's upper torso.

It feels like yet another BS personal foul call against the Saints.

It may have been a half second late, but I liked it. Didn't care about that call, but the BS facemasking call on Bresee earlier was stupid as was a PI call when the receiver ran into our guy.

On replay during the game, I remember it being legit, but very hard blow to an exposed shoulder. Was hoping someone would post a clip by now. I recall it was one step, maybe a step and a half. The severity of the hit seems to draw a flag these days.

So I just watched the play on YouTube again and slowed it down to .25 speed. When he releases the ball HB is about 1 and half yards away maybe 2 yards. His right foot lands and he takes another full step with his left closing the distance. At this point both his feet leave the ground (slightly) as he launches his shoulder into bakers chest. It looks to be slightly more than a second after the ball was gone. All around it’s close, very close. I think the qb gets that call almost every time and I would want the call if it had happened Carr. But I don’t think there was anything dirty with the hit. It wasn’t extremely or obviously late.

Plus, the QB was out of the pocket and running, no longer afforded the QB protections.

That jibes with what I saw, too.

Thanks for your perspective.

Yall have a video of the hit? I can’t seem to find it anywhere

Heck, they mad because Baker pinched a turtlehead.
