Underhill: I think everyone involved knows Carr cannot play this year at his current salary (11 Viewers)

Carr would absolutely take a pay cut, IF by doing so, would heal his reputation amongst the fans. Unfortunately he could take a 10mil pay cut and the fans will still dislike him. They'll say, "Carr trying to buy fan support, how terrible ..." He'd probably take a pay cut if the fans supported him and if we were only a couple players away from competing.
At this point I think it's very likely that Carr and the Saints understand this is a short term business deal. It likely has no bearing on a future relationship with the team/city. Considering how he's been received here, he likely wants to move on just as bad as some fans want him to. Also, knowing it's more than likely a short term commitment, it will mean he has to learn 2 new offenses in the next 2 years. Ideally, I'm sure he'd like to be playing for a team (this coming season) where he thought he might have some longevity.

Yea it does seem like he’s on the outs and he’s ok with it

Carr doesn't care about healing his reputation, fan support or helping the team win. He cares about his bank account, as he should. This is his job, not some charity. If he takes a pay cut it's because he was presented with an ultimatum and he and his agent figured out the math.
If I'm him I care about my reputation, not with the fans but in the league. He's never won a playoff game. I'm doing whatever I can to get to the playoffs. He's made just shy of $200 million in his career. If it's me in his shoes I'm taking a $15 million cut and saying go get me a LG and a possession WR. He's a prideful guy, having a reputation as a career loser has to suck. Just one playoff win would make a world of difference for him.
