Underhill: Kellen Moore said he took this job with the idea that Derek Carr would be his QB (138 Viewers)

The negative Nancies dont really know as much as they think.
The go-to will now be “what else is he supposed to say?”

Not sure why it’s hard to accept that Kellen Moore simply wants Carr to be his starting QB in 2025.
We have a coaching staff that can make the playoffs with Carr.

After watching the reset that Denver had with letting Wilson walk, who was also unliked by the fan base, although maybe for trying to hard where Carr doesn’t seem to try enough, was very appealing to me.

I think that would buy a lot of good will with the fans but I’ll still trust the new coaching staff till they give us a reason not to.

I wonder if Moore knew how unpopular that would be with the fanbase when he took the job?

Some of the Carr criticism is over the top and unwarranted. Some is valid. But the fact is that he is not well liked even among most that are okay with him being the starting QB this year. In fact, I would guess that many that are fine with him starting this year would not be fine with him starting next year.

So I wonder if Moore realised this and just doesn't care or if this will come as a bit of a surprise to him?
I doubt that Moore cares what the fans think of Carr as a QB. If he were to make his decisions on what the fans think he would find himself in the stands with the fans.I am sure when he took this job he knew what he would have to work with and he is betting on himself on his ability to lead this team.

To be fair, the Broncos kept Wilson for a year as the starting QB with a new HC before they cut him. That could end of being the exact same situation here.

For the third time, I don't disagree with that. I'm just curious if he knew. I seriously doubt he would care and is going to bet on his own decision making on who should start, and he should, but I am curious if he knew the situation before he took the job? My bet would be that he did not know since he had many more important things to do that see how the fans feel about each player.

Man I will continue to say that I just don’t see what others see in the guy. His tape to me is solid. He has lapses just like most other QBs in his tier, but for the most part, he’s efficient, can make all the throws, and doesn’t turn the ball over.

I haven’t had that “Confident every time he drops back” feeling since Drew. Obviously not to Drew’s level of course, but I actually feel good when I see our QB drop back now for the first time in a long time.

Carr indeed on tape is a solid QB. Coach types clearly see that.

I think he’s just had a very strange, anomaly career where he’s played on a bunch of really bad football teams for bad coaches.

You can’t tell me that if this man was Sean Payton’s quarterback, his reputation wouldn’t be completely different than it is today or that he wouldn’t have multiple playoff appearances and wins. Ain’t no way.

I don't disagree. But that doesn't address whether he knew that it would be unpopular or if he didn't know. I don't think it would have changed his mind either way, but I am curious if he knew.
As it would make zero difference to his decision either way, it seems a redundant question.

I'm sure Moore knew what's he's getting into with when he signed. Not the worst situation but not the best either. Kellen said he took this job with the idea that Derek Carr would be his QB, He didn't say he took job because Carr was here as the proven QB either. Big difference.

And while no coach is going to make decisions based on the feelings and opinions of fans and winning cures everything, if he doesn't win with Carr, he's going to burn a lot of the fan good will that every new HC has in the bank. But, sure, winning cures all.
Fan goodwill doesn't last long either way. There will be fans incensed with any number of things done, regardless of their merits, for the duration of his tenure - so why worry?
