Underhill mumbles "they tried to trade for him before" in reference to Davante Adams (2 Viewers)

Seems like he dodged a bad injury.

If not him, someone like him. The point I was tyring to make was that if we were going to seek upgrades through trades, we should pick better options that crazy expensive players in the twilight of their career.
Glad the injury isn’t serious for him. Hopefully he shakes off the injury bug long term. It seems like he may have a reputation for getting an injury in a matter of time.

Watson would feel closer to a flier. He could have a similar outlook to the young WRs that we have but he has more tape. It won’t cost much in cap and picks to trade for him. He’s a quality WR who can make plays. He won’t necessarily boost the offense for a full season either. If the Saints are looking for depth, Watson is certainly a good addition. He provides an option of a physical WR who has the profile to make contested catches and beat secondaries deep. But the consistency is in question. If the Saints are seeking a top WR or immediate difference maker for the offense, they wouldn’t get that in Watson. It’s all according to what the Saints are looking for to go with the results that they’re getting out of the offense. It may be proven playmaker over upside as a veteran team trying to continue stacking up wins.

That and we need draft capital to retool our offensive line.

If we trade for him so be it, but in terms of our soft rebuild is this a necessary move?
I think this speeds up that soft rebuild. If we get Adams then we have a window. A 2 yr window where we have Carr, Adams, AK Demario, Mathieu, Taysom an a D that plays great ( well at least for all but the last min or 2). Yes That's a group that I can get behind an all in mentality for 2 yrs. Yes we need OL and pass rusher help, but we could use next yrs 1st and other picks to help . I'd go all in for 25 and 26 and If we don't make the SB, then I'm ok with a serious rebuild

Not based on my knowledge. He’s a better fit for reasons I won’t disclose but I believe he’ll connect w/ Loomis and Allen during conversations more than Selah and the Jets GM.

For that reason I’m confident we reel him in
Also I don't think that Rodgers and Saleh are all warm and fuzzy with each other. I doubt Adams wants any part of taking a side

I think approaching any kind of deal in a manner thats more about the current than the future, is a mistake. I read a comment where someone said the window is only open so often. I don't think anyone expected this to be a window open year. The first two games were phenomenal and expectations seemed to blow up. While I was caught up in the optimism, I never once believed we were headed toward a championship season. If we were a piece or two away, I'd say go for it, but this team still has obvious starter quality and depth issues. We are just starting the healing process from the constant "all in" approach that has hampered us in recent seasons. Keep getting well and add good young talent if possible. I'm not against adding veterans for the sake of trying to win more now, but I am against mortgaging the future (cap money, draft picks, etc.) to do so.
The 1st 2 wks showed what we are capable of. We didn't get exposed like some people say against Philly we lost the superman of our OL and we were 3 DBs running into each other away from winning. With all the miscues in last wks game we were a DPI away from winning that even with a patchwork OL and losing TH. Getting Adams I think puts us in that all in conversation , really because some of our players have probably 2 yrs left at a high level like AK, Demario, Honey Badger, TH maybe even Lattimore. Plus DC is not getting younger. Adams fits what we need like a glove.

Khai Harley probably isn't getting much sleep tonight while he crunches numbers.

Yep.

This info from Nick I think tells us two things…1. The Saints obviously like the player and think he can fit in with us, as they went after him at a time when our WR room was even more loaded than it is now (Nick said that part in the article also), and 2. It seems obvious that this would have been something Carr himself pushed, wants, and I would imagine that he knows this is what Adams would have wanted before doing so.

These two men seem to really want to work together somewhere. They have a bond.

I don’t disagree, and yet a big part of the solution of your concern is getting a QB on a rookie contract. We have 2 developmental prospects, one w/ high end talent.

In theory, the cap would be clean in another 2-3 years. Just enough time to take advantage of it.

In the meantime if you can win more now, you should

We are in a very “Immediate Gratification or bust” world these days sadly.

If we aren’t dominating everyone and going 15-2/14-3 and THE obvious favorite to win it all, people are like “blow it all up, we suck!”

It’s like “We have holes, so it’s not worth trying to get better because the roster isn’t perfect and we aren’t the obvious SB favorite.”

Especially after what Wilson said in reference to their offense. Adams should stay away from the Jets

I’m much more in favor of being aggressive this year relative to the last few years. With mediocre weekly results the last few seasons, digging a deeper hole didn’t make much sense. With enough pieces to make a run at it this year and being top 10 in DVOA for offense and defense after four weeks, grab that shovel and start digging. Besides, I might get hit by a bus before the super team of the future shows up.

I read up on the offense that gave Rodgers back to back MVP’s in Green Bay (while Hackett was OC), the passing game was built around isolating Adams and making him the #1 read on most plays. Tough to run that scheme without the guy it was built for.

Having Adams also gave them plenty of two high looks that opened up their running game for Aaron Jones. The Jets are seeing one high looks around 75% of the time this year.

A soft rebuild is not to win a Super Bowl in 2 years, but to build a sustainable team that can potentially compete for a Super Bowl.

This Super Bowl or bust mentality is why so many people on here are so distraught after a loss, we are not built to win a Super Bowl, we are built to compete on the field which can eventually put us in place to compete for a Championship but we are clearly in need of a few pieces and a 32 year old receiver is not one of those pieces (Though I'm not against acquiring if they can work a deal out).
