Underhill on Payton (1 Viewer)

Getting old is hard and he's now had COVID twice in the last 2 years, a stressful season (hurricane, NFL double standards, post-Brees). I don't think he'll retire this month or something, but I agree with those who think he might do so in 2026 at say age 60, which is sadly not too long from now.

Nick has great insight on the team, good sources, knows how to analyze film, and is a good writer. Moreover, he is a good human being who has done a lot of charity work in the community and came back from his gigg in Boston because he loves New Orleans.

It's the way that Ian wrote the article and the conclusions he drew that was the issue. As you say, Nick doesn't write sensationalist stuff and he does not speculate without making it clear he is speculating.

Wait, what?

Ian and Underhill’s reports were very different. As you said, one was way more sensationalist than the other.

We don’t know for certain if Ian’s report is wrong yet, but at this point in time, it is most certainly sensationalist/clickbait.

“Ian is not a bad reporter…he is just someone who jumps the gun…with a tad more sensationalism.” is also a pretty generous description of him.

That “reporter” has literally been reporting that Payton was leaving since 2015 (multiple reports across multiple years).

I completely agree.

Also, fans have always lamented how loyal Payton is. How he keeps players and personnel beyond their usefulness. I seriously doubt he’d leave the Saints high and dry w/out any notice or succession plan despite them sticking w/him through the thickest of thins. Payton has a loyalty to the people in the front office, the fans and city of NOLA.

I firmly believe Payton would do all he could to ensure this organization remains competitive after his departure. He cares about his legacy.

Sean may not coach after this current contract, but I doubt he’s done right now.
 
The man is taking a breather after an emotionally exhausting season. He has a competitive fire that burns deep which leads me to believe he isn't going to go out on this sour note after this train wreck season. He is not going to throw in the towel now. He won't coach forever as he has said himself but now isn't the time to abandon ship and he knows it. He does however need to recharge his batteries and get away for a bit, who wouldn't after this hell year. A lot of overreaction and speculation going on, but it's just that, overreaction and speculation

Last time I reviewed, Nick’s business model is driven by recurring revenue. Wish he would allow persons to buy annual subscriptions via one-time payment.
