Underhill on Payton (1 Viewer)

60minutes, would you agree that by next Monday (if not by Friday) we will all know? I cannot imagine Payton skipping the Senior Bowl if he intends to return.

And of course, for Payton to have a productive time in Mobile, he will need to spend substantial time with the college personnel people before Monday. He can't simply spend 30 minutes reading Walterfootball and show up? The line between success and failure in the NFL is absurdly small. A head coach skipping the normal postseason review process (if he did) and attending the Senior Bowl without doing the requisite homework (especially a head coach as involved in the draft as Payton) would be more than unsettling.
Yes, I would agree. But quite honestly, I believe he has already decided to return. I think he was able to get some needed time away and recharge. I think he has his swagger back.

As for the meetings you are referring to, I believe they should start this week. And it is not just college personnel. They have to do a roster evaluation and coaching meetings.

You think there’s a plan in place for Allen and Carmichael to be promoted and Ireland to go to GM if Payton does retire in the next few years?

He didn't skip it, he postponed it. All it sounds like is Payton decided he wanted a vacation immediately, probably to reset his mind and refresh himself after what had to be the most stressful season of his career. I'm a fan and I'm exhausted, I can't imagine what the players and coaches endured mentally. I also think that he trusts and has high enough confidence in his staff that he isn't concerned at all about delaying things.

This is freaking nuts...there's no credibility in anything that has been reported so far.

Reporter A speculates something
Network B runs story of Reporter As speculation
Network C runs story of multiple outlets (Network B, Reporter A) reporting speculation

This is some BS dredged up to bury the officiating story, that's all this is
truth.... media or probably Jerry Jones trying to "go fishing" LOL It must be the off season again...

Nah...its New York, they're trying to bury a story. Don't believe me...this was google when you looked for Saints News last week:

This is Saints news this week:

Notice anything missing?

Your right... that story pisses me off big time. I saw that earlier this week and said WTF!!! At any rate you can bet something sinister is being perpetrated against the Saints .

I am not 100% sure, just because a lot will depend on when Sean calls it quits. Dennis is someone I know Sean respects a lot and believes deserves another head coaching opportunity. If Dennis is still DC, and Sean was to retire sooner rather than later, I believe Dennis would be the odds-on favorite to become the next head coach. At the same time, given the turnaround that this team has made under Mickey and Sean--regardless of the league's view, this is a top 3 or 5 organization--they would do their due diligence by conducting a search. I do think Jeff has a chance, maybe more so than Dennis. Khai Harley would also be in that mix but the sense I get is that Jeff would be given the nod.

I actually think it has a lot to do with Jeff Duncan's article. Once Duncan indicated that Sean was not going anywhere while drawing attention to the burnout, Ian pounced. He called attention to Sean's ostensible silence and the lack of an apparent commitment to returning; and, of course, referencing that silence creates a vacuum for others to then interpret what it means--everything from Sean is taking off a year and then planning to go to coach another team to he is being wooed by Fox and other media outlets (which is not something altogether new).

Edit: And of course it all benefits the league.

It was hilarious that Duncan put out pretty much the exact same info WHILE SAYING HE FELT PAYTON WAS RETURNING and it got no attention.

Meanwhile, Rapaport’s report focuses more on the silence and uncertainty and it goes crazy lol.

Maybe because a lot of us refuse to read Duncan? He could claim a new British invasion of New Orleans and I wouldn't know it until someone else reported it.

He's become less than relevant to a lot of Saints fans.

Which is pretty silly since he’s perhaps the most connected reporter to the Saints org and hits on a ton of stuff.

I strongly disagreed with his takes on bounty gate. I can also recognize and appreciate when someone brings consistent accurate inside info and separate the two.

Good for you.

Agree. Just found the gift option. It fits my requirements. Expect a busy offseason and Nick is a trusted source. Plan to purchase.
I subscribe annually and it for me is worth every cent. Nick does a great job on providing info and analysis and I’m looking forward to this important off season!
