Underhill: Saints talking with FA wide receivers (1 Viewer)

Manny Sanders makes a lot of sense. Solid veteran WR… won’t cost much… and is familiar with the offense. If I were a betting man, I’d have to see he’s got the best odds of getting back with the Saints.

I think a trade for a WR is also still very much in play.
Brandin Cooks
Tyler Lockett
Laviska Shenault

Shenault would be very interesting IMO. The talent is there in spades, and he also has versatility. Remember, the Saints also lost Ty Montgomery this offseason… and Shenault can do a lot of the things Montgomery did. Shenault reminds me of Cordarelle Patterson, only.. I believe Shenault has the ability to be a better pure WR than Patterson.
I would love to have Shenault

I like all of those options and I think the trade market has more in the way of true impact players than the free agents left. I do wonder if Hartley (Harris) will take on some of the things that Montgomery did, but I'd be happy with Shenault even as a pure WR. But, his versatility would be very nice to have.

Frankly, Jacksonville, blew up the value of WRs in free agency and all the ones gone cost too much for what they are. Still I'd like Landry on a decent deal and Sanders and Humphrey might also make some sense as guys who although they aren't going to make a lot of big plays, do know how to get open which was a major issue last year.

I'd have an accident if the Saints traded for Lockett. He's so criminally underrated it's not even funny. Best deep ball tracker in the league hands down.

Id be worried if they werent. cant have a repeat of last years street FA starting games.

I think everyone knew they would be in the market but a lot of people are starting to panic because they haven't done anything on the offensive side of the ball other than losing Armstead and signing Winston at this point. Personally, I think they wanted to see what the cap situation would be after the Armstead situation was resolved and after they signed a QB before really moving on WRs. Plus, I think who they got at QB might have some influence on who they want to sign as free agent WRs. For instance, had they gotten someone that didn't have a great arm getting a speed guy would be kind of a waste. But with Winston, it would be a sin wasting that arm without adding a deep threat.

NE Jakobi Meyers and GB Allen Lazard are RFAs with 2nd round tenders. I don't know much about Meyers, but I think the consensus amongst GB fans is that Lazard has cemented himself as a solid no. 2 receiver. So the value might be there with him.

I can't imagine we will pay/trade a lot for a bigger name WR. There's a lot of options/value at WR in the draft. Especially at the slot position.

Sanders and Humphries make a ton of sense like some have pointed out. Keelan Cole, Sammy Watkins, and Mohamed Sanu would be around the same money. Underwhelming players though. We might be able to get T.Y. Hilton for a reasonable price. If we don't mind spending some money, Landry or Fuller would be nice.
