Underrated Actors/Actresses (1 Viewer)

Love that movie. He and his crazy sister were both good in it. I don’t know that I’d call Cusack underrated but he has certainly landed in a bunch of stuff I’ve liked. It’s hard to find many John Cusack movies with bad soundtracks.
I think the Gyllenhaals beat the Cusacks in the bro/sis actoroff

Never heard of the show, how would you rate it? 5 Stars?

Must of been a fun experience. Did you get to talk to him?
just quick post-show chit chat - about the show and his nephew (it would have been tacky to direct questions to him after his nephew's show

"Barry" is great (and calls for Bill Hader to be included in the underrated actor category)

Is John Cusack underrated?

I feel like John Cusack is underrated.
Cusack has been making some really horrible dreck lately. 2012 looks like Citizen freakin' Cane by comparison.

Before he won his Oscar, I'd say Ed Harris was underrated.

Kind of random, but my favorite show ever is The West Wing, and there’s an actor on there , Richard Shiff, who’s this character actor type who’s been in a bunch of stuff, though i dont think ive ever seen him in anything but TWW.. anyway, he plays Toby on the show, and every time i watched it, i would think ’Damn what a great actor this guy is’.. what it was, was his subtlety.. he’s one of those actors, and i think the great ones can do this- they dont need to say a word, they can act with their eyes, and just their eyes.. .. Sorkin would write these scenes where the camera just lingers on him, and he didnt need to say a word- his eyes said it all, and it was so powerful… They say that when you’re acting on camera, and it’s a close up- literally all you have to do is think a thought, and the camera picks up on it.. it always seemed like magic to me, how it can do that, it’s such a subtle, intimate medium.. . but Richard Shiff was a master at it.

Until he is buried under a two-storey mountain of Oscars, Gary Oldman is criminally underrated.

He’s a chameleon actor who completely disappears into a role

I don’t know if I actually know what his real voice sounds like

Oldman is a lot like Daniel Day Lewis in that respect. But Lewis only wants to do hoity-toity fancypants “films” while Oldman has no problem doing genre crowd pleasers like The Fifth Element, or the Harry Potter or Dark Knight franchises.

i'm not sure i agree - DDLewis is much more from the Method acting school - Gary Oldman is much more from the Classical (British) Acting style
the old anecdote about the Dustin Hoffman v Olivier 'clash' of acting styles on the set of Marathon Man highlights the ostensible difference

I just meant that these are two actors who usually never look the same from movie to movie. If I ran into either of them on the street, I would have no idea who they are, whereas if I saw Tom Hanks or Chris Evans, I'd recognize them instantly.

Good rule of thumb is that Gary Oldman is the one who’s not Tim Roth

Romany Malco

Watching 40 Year Old Virgin for the umpteenth time and realized that I have never not enjoyed a character played by Romany Malco even if I didn't care for the movie (although 40 YOV is hilarious)
To me by far the most underrated actor was James Rebhorn . Movies he starred in was Scent of a Woman , Independence Day , My Cousin Vinny , Guarding Tess , Basic Instinct , etc.. many more . Never the main character but always a great actor . Look him up if you have to , but he was the guy that played Mr. Trask in Scent of a Women ( the guy that wanted the kid expelled for not ratting on his buddies ) . That is one of my favorite shows and he was a great actor .

Nice addition. I also really enjoyed "Scent of a Woman". He played the role of that boarding school headmaster so well.

That was my favorite Al Pacino performance. Have you ever tried to keep your eyes open, no blinking and just stare into nothingness for long periods at a time? He made it look easy.
