I think it has to be 6 years to be attractive to larger names (and honestly what could one possibly do in just under 24 mo as you pointed to at the end above). If USSF is insistent on just thru 2026, then it almost guarantees an "in house" hire like Ramos or Cherundelo etc more as a caretaker vs manager.
I agree, but devils advocate..... 2 things 1) USSF wont want to enter into a 6 year contract with a larger name and his salary x 6. Theyd love the opportunity to boost the brand for 2 years, then turn the reigns over to MLS. And 2) it might be more attractive to a larger name to come in for 18 months, get a taste of coaching a host team in the WC and return to club football...or retirement.
