Vehicle plows into crowd on Bourbon St., with 14 fatalities (3 Viewers)

this press conference is a free fall. admitted barriers were broke, chief says have been for a "long time", mayor even mentioned Mardi Gras beads could have contributed to the malfunction. people are dead, the city is going to have major legal problems. Kirkpatrick is in way over her head.

And what does that mean?
Depends on the laws. Gives certain authority to the gov. If you are pessimistic you could say it gives the gov power to suspend/violated certain civil rights. Have power to make unilateral decisions etc. I do not know how the law is written but I know that would be the argument of some.

I just saw a tik tok interview with someone from the intelligence community that stated these types of attacks are imminent and will become more common place. Said terrorists are changing their tactics with the U.S. It's tik tok so take that for what it's worth but kinda odd for me to see that interview a week ago and here we are.

When were they installed at Canal and Bourbon? I remember from all my years living there that there were no barricades at Canal and Bourbon. Traffic usually had to turn at Iberville and Bourbon where the first presence of barricades existed. If something big enough was going on, they blocked Canal and Bourbon with a squad car as seen in the video.

They did a big construction project re-doing the street and sidewalks on Bourbon 4 or 5 years ago (could be longer but that is my best guess on time frame). It think that is when they were added. But, apparently all the bollards were down for repairs prior to the Super Bowl. That's why they had a squad car blocking the intersection. They may have done that anyway because of the crowds on NYE and to have a Police presence during Sugar Bowl week. But, like I said before, it wouldn't have mattered since the guy drove up on the sidewalk and to my knowledge there has never been anything blocking the sidewalks on Bourbon and Canal.

you know there have been actual world wars waged, yes?
Good point. I guess I was talking about the time span I’ve been around. I never even thought about something bad like that happening while walking around the quarter in NOLA when I was younger. Same with school shootings. That wasn’t really a thing until Columbine.

He didn't declare Marshall Law.

So US citizen, former US military service.

Wasn't there a shooting years ago on a base in Texas by a radicalized military memeber?

I bet we're gonna get an in depth report on this (and now I'm curious), but I think I heard one of the anchors say just that. That right there at Canal and Bourbon there were no barricades and that the bollards didn't start until a block into the Quarter. And now that I think about it more, that's my recollection as well.

On Bourbon no. But closer to Rampart was certainly dangerous. I think when we were younger we were just oblivious to the dangers. I used to park in front of Armstrong Park all the time back in the early-to-mid 90s. I now realize how dangerous that was.
