Yeah. I was thinking more of what abbott did with his state emergency powers. Whenever a gov official speaks it makes me wary. Lol.I think what he declared was a Federal State of Emergency which is what they do just before or after hurricanes. Basically it just allows Federal assets to operate in the area and Federal funds to flow in.
I said he didn't declare Martial Law because what you talked about was essentially Martial Law.
Thanks for the info. It's been a while since I've gone down Bourbon from Canal. I usually enter the Quarter via Decatur.Canal at Bourbon has bollards which are big metal polls that retract into the ground so that they can let traffic through during the day. They exist all the way down Bourbon on the intersections. Some of the bollards were being repaired in preparation for the Super Bowl. I'm not sure if the bollards on Canal and Bourbon were up or if they were being repaired. But, there normally isn't an NOPD car blocking Bourbon on most nights. So I don't know if the car was there because the bollards were being repaired or if it was just extra security. WDSU New Orleans is reporting the bollards were down to be repaired for the Super Bowl, but I don't know if that has yet been confirmed.
Either way, the bollards would not have stopped this guy since he went up on the sidewalk. There has never to my knowledge ever been anything blocking the sidewalks on Bourbon and Canal or any other intersection with Bourbon.
My guess is that the result of this will be that the French Quarter becomes essentially exclusively pedestrian. Maybe they will allow residents to drive on the streets and/or delivery trucks but it is going to be severely restricted and the general public will not be able the drive in the Quarter.
I think some of it is that there are some Hotels that span Canat to Iberville and some have service entrances on Iberville, so you probably need access. And pedestrians amassing doesn't really happen til after IbervilleThanks for the info. It's been a while since I've gone down Bourbon from Canal. I usually enter the Quarter via Decatur.
I think you're right about making the FQ mostly pedestrian.
boy i did - in high school I was 35% sure that nuclear bombs were minutes from fallingGood point. I guess I was talking about the time span I’ve been around. I never even thought about something bad like that happening while walking around the quarter in NOLA when I was younger. Same with school shootings. That wasn’t really a thing until Columbine.
I think that it is a Holiday Inn now. Last time I visited.

I was 50% sure. Lol.boy i did - in high school I was 35% sure that nuclear bombs were minutes from falling
Yes, for the Mark Essex incident in 1973. The Huey was unsuccessful in rooting the shooter out so police stormed the area where he was hold up.It is. Holiday Inn Downtown. I've stayed there for a lot of Saints games. Rare downtown NOLA hotel with balconies. I know it was HOJO because there's a video out there on Youtube of a SWAT team or something being deployed to the roof by a helicopter when it was a downtown howard johnson.
