Vehicle plows into crowd on Bourbon St., with 14 fatalities (8 Viewers)

@Dago The FBI rep just stated that the people they thought might be involved were just patrons who moved/looked inside the coolers so what I read earlier seems to be confirmed.

So... people looked inside the coolers and nobody noticed a forkin bomb? We are COOKED as a society!

Maybe he misspoke and they just moved the coolers out of the way or something but dang.

Also, while the bollards in the street at Canal and Bourbon would not have stopped him from making the turn the ones further down would have slowed him down.

So like have kept him from going the 3 blocks he went? I think that's true.

God I hope so

But unfortunately it wouldn't surprise me

You never lived in Louisiana, right? The NOLA accents in movies/TV are always cringey, IMO. I would say for where he grew up, that's probably a common accent. You hear them in NOLA but not a lot. You start hearing them more often in Baton Rouge and continuing on down that way. So, IMO, most often when you hear an actor doing a "New Orleans" accent, it's really trying to do a Cajun accent ... badly.

Landry has a bit of a cajun accent. I think he's from New Iberia. So, yeah, I don't think it's fake.

I haven't but he seems to turn it on. When he started talking this morning it was off & the longer he talked, he realized "oh sheet, let me activate my accent"

Not sure it would have stopped him since he could have gone up on the sidewalk to get around them, likely hitting people there, but maybe there would have been some posts for balconies in the way to slow him down.

I would give the benefit of the doubt that they didn't know what they were looking at and were just being curious. If I looked in a cooler and recognized a bomb, I would RUN away .... for my own safety and then also find a cop.

Honestly this makes more sense than that there were 3 other people working with him. Lone crazy dude radicalized by ISIS makes more, um, sense.

I'm the last to defend the guy, but he probably does code switch to a certain degree. His accent is what a guy from down on Bayou Teche, especially of his generation, would sound like.

Never heard him in person but I think he does naturally have a bit of a cajun accent. But, he probably does turn it up for affect at times. But, it's also possible that the heavy accent is how he grew up and sometimes it just pops back up.

I know that I grew up with a fairly strong accent that I have mostly gotten rid of, but it does pop up from time to time when I'm around others that have it or when under stress.

I don't think he's like Senator Kennedy who went from having no accent to talking like Foghorn Leghorn.

Well, he's not doing anything to practice his "non-regional diction" like Veronica Corningstone, that's for sure; but I would say it's "real".

i think unless you are trained, that almost everyone will be in disbelief and the brain simply isnt processing and sending signals in that moment.

She said they were all just coming out to see what commotion was all about - so it wasnt like they knew a terrorist act was happening, just heard the crash and went out to see.

Said whoever yanked her back inside, yanked her out of her shoes ( she lost them )

and thanks whoever it was.

Yeah. I don't think anyone knows how they will react in that moment until they are in that moment. We all like to think we would act rationally, but not all of us will.

I didn't even think about the balconies. I dunno about slow him down so much as cause more injuries/deaths and have a lot of people's worst imaginations while being on those balconies realized.
