Video captures roller coaster support with major crack in it (1 Viewer)

In watching the video a couple of more times, I think it’s failing at a weld joint where three different pieces of round structural tubing that have been coped to shape have been welded together. I would imagine there was an initial requirement that all welds had to undergo some sort of non destructive testing (NDT) to prove they were good welds before they could leave the manufacturer. If there is any question about how that was done, and it led to this, then every critical weld on that ride needs to be inspected. That won’t be easy given the nature of the ride. This thing could be down for months, or forever if that is too expensive.
Interesting. I didn't see the video, only the still, and I'm certainly not well-educated (and certainly no expert) in welding. I know just enough to be dangerous proferring opinions.... :hihi:

Those traveling carnivals, the type that set up for weekend in a church parking lot or field, had some rides I refused to get on,

they literally looked like they were held together by spit and baling wire

You mentioning traveling carnivals...

Bruh, I miss the Super Fair that was in the Dome every summer back in the day.

Ok, I see now -- as you suggested, it really looks like it may have started at the weld and propagated down. And I saw the earlier picture from (I think they said) April -- yikes, how did they miss that for a day much less multiple months?? And the park is still open??? I wouldn't ride ANYTHING at that park until an investigation of their insoection and maintenance teams.

Went back and watched the report again -- the picture below was actually from June 24, not April.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Another structural issue has been located with a large roller coaster that’s been closed for weeks since a large crack in a support column was discovered, a North Carolina agency confirmed on Friday.

A Swiss-based engineering company that designed and built the Fury 325 roller coaster at Carowinds, which sits along the North Carolina-South Carolina border, replaced that steel support column earlier this month, news outlets reported.

But the North Carolina Department of Labor, which inspects the ride and decides whether it can operate, said in an email that the agency has now been notified of a separate “weld indication,” which “could be either a break or a crack.”

“No certificate of operation has been issued nor do we have a timeline of when the certificate of operation will be issued for the Fury 325,” department spokesperson Meredith Watson said, referring other questions to Carowinds.

In a statement released Friday, Carowinds said it was conducting a full maintenance review of the ride while test runs are performed……..

So I'm guessing that everyone was supposed to be on the roller coaster, is all going to start mysteriously dying over the next few weeks ...
