Video of every Trevor Penning snap versus Cardinals (2 Viewers)

Its very easy to explain. If the rusher gets a chance to get his hands into the blocker, the blocker might as well be on roller skates. To avoid this, the blocker should have his elbows pinned to his side. His hands should remain chest high. Now, there seems to be different assessments from posters regarding the cause. He is obviously commiting other errors, but the transgression discussed above is elementallly egregious in pass blocking 101.

Some good, bad and ugly in there. I do think he got better as the game went on. The thing with him is he is physically capable, and has the talent. He just has to be consistent, which is what we have yet to see from him.

I also think it’s clear he’s better at run blocking then pass protection.
I saw nothing that I liked. His feet are slow and he doesnt sink and anchor in he gets blasted because hes not playing with leverage. Theres NO BEND to resist the pass rusher he gets shucked aside in the run game and every other play always seems to be his back

The clip looks like he lacks engagement skills and reset skills. He seems to flash both hands a lot like he wants to do something, but doesn't ever initiate a strong punch. He just kinda points his elbows to the side, grabs under the shoulder pads, and catches guys with his chest. Then they rush through him, stand him up, and his center of mass is too high and he doesn't pop his feet back at all to reset and anchor. Unfortunately that results in his upper half being stuck behind his lower half so he loses his balance. Maybe if his hands were more under the arm pits and his elbows pointed toward the ground, he'd be in a better position to press them vertically to stand them up while he pops his feet to drop anchor like a snatch and clean lift?

I never played the position and know nothing about OL development, but I feel like he needs to hone in on one of these skills (recovery or engagement) to have some success, and then build on the other one once he's got the first one figured out. Maybe recovery skills would be the simplest and most consistent to learn since he has the physical tools? His hands are so raw that I can't imagine he'll outwork and out strategize competent DEs for a long time. Trying to master multiple skills at the same time is a tough ask.
Seems as soon as he engages he melts away no resistance just trying to push ppl over and whiffing alot hes barely getting hands on guys

What’s frustrating is that he plays with a lot of effort, but it just seems wasted because he is not doing the little things well. I’m not saying it’s all coaching, but you’d think we’d be able get someone with talent and effort to at least improve a little. Hate to say it but it seems like he’s been getting worse.
I really dont see that effort hes just waiting at times and isnt engaging they way a blocker should

Looks like an average and very replaceable guard trying to play tackle. In year 3.

I only noticed one pass blocking rep where he got a little help with the TE chipping before going out on his route. I think that would change quite a bit if it were regular season games. They're leaving him on an island now which is hopefully good for his development.

I posted a long winded version elsewhere, but this OL has me concerned about whether we can make any progress on offense this year. I stick to OL > QB > OC. If the first part of that chain breaks, the other two links don’t matter.
