Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch
https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/...-chronometer-chronograph-42-mm-31030425001001

The official spaceflight watch. Breitling might have been there first but Omega went to the moon. It’s kinda plain but its history

Has long been my ’holy grail’ watch.. ive thought many times over the last 10 yrs or so about pulling the trigger on one, but im cheap and cant reconcile spending $4500 on a timepiece since it always seems like there’s somehting else im saving for…. Mayeb one day ill do it, but for now i have this one, which believe it or not is the only privately -owned watch ever worn on the moon (all Omegas were government-issued).. this astronaut Dave Scott in 1971 brought his own personal Bulova and had to use it after his govt-issued Omega stopped working.. his original sold for $1.3 million a few years ago .

You can haggle at JC Penney ? Im not even sure if JCP is even in existence anymore since this post from 13 yrs ago, but i never realized that bartering was a thing there , or at any department store .
Yes, you could. And I did. Ended up trading that watch at an open market in Victoria Falls for some small animal sculptures in 2019. Bought a new one that Summer, and still have it. I'm going back to Africa this Spring and may use my current one to barter. Never know.

Once again, I try to revive this thread from the depths of SR.com’s archives. Is anyone else here into watch collecting? If so, show them off.

I’ve been on a bit of a watch binge over the last couple of years. Here is the current state of my collection…

It’s been a good year for watch collecting. In 2024 I acquired the Seiko Pogue, Tudor Black Bay Chrono, and Breitling Cosmonaute. Meanwhile,

My next targets are an Original Seiko Pogue and/or an Omega Speedmaster.

Seiko Pogue homage - SSC947
- I have a thing for Astronaut watches. I’m still looking for an original Pogue at a decent price. The original Pogue is known for being snuck onto Skylab in the ‘70s but Col. Pogue, who preferred it over the NASA issued Omega Speedmaster.

Seiko Brian May Red Special - SRPE83K1
- I’ve always been a fan of Brian May, Freddie Mercury, and Queen. This thing is just gorgeous! The dial is designed to give the look of Brian May’s Red Special guitar. Most of the proceeds go to the foundation setup in Feddie Mercury’s name to combat AIDS/HIV

Tudor Black Bay Chrono Blue Boutique - M79360B-0002
- My latest acquisition. I’ve wanted a BB Chrono Pink but I’ve gotten tired of waiting for one.

Breitling Cosmonaute Automatic - 11525 67 1809
- Did I mention I like Astronaut watches? At some point I’ll buy a Speedmaster. I bought this at Jackroad and Betty when traveling in Japan last month. The Cosmonaute is basically a Breitling Navitimer with a 24 hour dial and a couple other mods. Astronaut Scott Carpenter had this watch during the fourth Mercury space mission. He asked Breitling to modify it into a 24 hour watch due to the fact that there is no day or night in space. This specific watch was made back in 1971. Making it as old as me.

Seiko Astron - JDM 8B63-0AZ0
- a VERY nice gift from my Mother-In-Law in Japan.

Citizen Campanola - 6771-T010750-TA
- This is one seriously cool watch. My wife bought it for herself but decided she didn’t like it. However, I do. It’s one of the few Campanola’s that doesn’t use roman numerals.

Timex PacMan - TW2U31900 T80
- It’s quirky, it’s cheap, it’s fun, it’s PACMAN!!

Casio Protrek - ALT-7000
- My 1st watch. This was given to me 30 years ago by my wife. Oh boy there is a good story there. It gives me altitude, barometric pressure, and temperature.

Casio Protrek - PRG-850Y
- Because Protreks are so awesome. This one is much more accurate than my ALT-7000. I use it every time I go to the mountains. This gives altitude, barometric pressure, Temperature, and has a nice compass to boot.

Swatch/Omega Mission to the Moonphase - New Moon - SO33B700
- Maybe my least favorite watch. I got this because I eventually want a Speedmaster. I thought this would tide me over until I get one but I almost never wear it. Maybe I should just try it with a different strap. The velcro one sucks.

Not ashamed to say (though maybe i should be ) that i picked up a ‘Faux-Lex’ last year in Bangkok.. a replica of the Rolex Pepsi, the iconic timepiece worn by the original Magnum PI amongst others .. shockingly, it stopped working and proved to be a piece of junk within 3 months of returning stateside ….. it was the first and last fake watch ill ever buy .. Im now toying with the idea of buying a real one, since they tend to be less expensive here .

As nostalgic as you are, i’d’a thought you’d go for a timex with twist o flex

Hmm.. i always say that i like to glance at the past, but not live in it … though i do appreciate the Timexes and Casios Rick has in his collection above .

Speaking of Casio, my current daily wear is this ‘Pepsi-inspired’ Casio Duro Marlin.. to tide me over til i get the Rolex version .. i first became aware of it via an article on Bill Gates years ago, who apparently wears the non-Pepsi version of the Casio Duro Marlin on the daily .

Casio’s are outstanding. No one that knows anything about watches will ever bad mouth a Casio.

As for the Rolex Pepsi, get on the waiting list for as many AD’s as you can. Rolex makes over a million watches a year but the majority get sold to flippers that are asking $15K or more for a watch that sells for $11K at a Rolex dealer.
