NFL Draft We need a Nose Tackle (1 Viewer)

It's a sad statement that before the 11th game, against ATL, we want to talk draft.

(No offense to OP. It's just the state of the franchise)

We've honestly needed a nose tackle since we traded Malcom Brown to the Jaguars in 2021.

Nose tackles aren't exclusive to a 3-4 alignment, it simply references where the defensive tackle is lined up on the defensive front. If one of the DT's is directly head up with the center (0-tech) or on either shoulder of the center (1-tech) then he's the nose tackle regardless if there are 3 or 4 down linemen.
Not saying you are wrong but I don’t agree. That’s just taking a defensive tackle and shading the center, in my opinion. A true nose tackles job is to take up as many lineman as possible to free up linebackers, which we don’t have…

I'll start off with QB. I didn't include the top 3, because they will not fall far enough to to trade up to get.

Jayden Daniels- QB, LSU Rank- #4 6'4"/210# Depending on how many teams ahead of us are QB needy, Daniels might fall far enough and that's a big might to where the Saints could trade up to get him. He would be be my first choice to go after in the draft. Some of these mock drafts have him going to the Raiders at #13. Would it be feasible to trade up from the #19 spot ahead of the Raiders to take him or would that be too steep? And that's assuming that we can work a trade.

Michael Penix Jr.- QB, Washington Rank- #5 6'3"/213# This guy right here could fall right in our laps in the first round or get close enough to trade up a few spots and take him.

Shedeur Sanders- QB, Colorado Rank- #6 6'2"/215# Another talented QB who could be around when we pick.

Michael Pratt- QB, Tulane Rank- #10 6'3"/220# He will definitely be there at our pick in the first round and can probably be had in 2nd or 3rd.

I listed these QB's due to the fact that not are very mobile and can make plays with their legs, but also they are pretty accurate with their passes and have pretty decent arm strength.

I like Daniels and Pratt, Daniels would have to be in the 1st, Pratt a little later. Either one would be great and being from Tulane and LSU is a plus but has nothing to do with the picks. These are quality QBs. Tulane has turned around since Pratt got there. Daniels is crazy good.

Here are some TE's I looked at. They didn't impress me too much. Most of them were on the smallish side, weren't proficient inline blockers or didn't have good hands. These are the one's that are good at both.

Brock Bowers- TE, Georgia Rank- #1 6'4"/240# Probably won't come close for us to draft. He is the best of the bunch.

Cade Stover- TE, Ohio St. Rank- #4 6'4"/251# Can block adequately and has good hands. He's pretty tough, he also plays DE on defense.

Gavin Bartholomew- TE, Pitt Rank- #19 6'5"/250# This is a guy we could probably pick up on the second or third day of the draft. Good blocker and has good hands.

C.J. Dippre- TE, Alabama Rank-#23 6'5"/257# Another good blocker with decent hands. probably a day 3 prospect.

I like the draft and I can talk about all year.

I actually think we will win the division. It’s just a feeling that we will go on a run. Probably won’t win in the playoffs, however.

I like Daniels and was the first to post a “we should draft Daniels” thread, last year. We have not drafted a QB in the first round since Archie Manning. I really don’t understand.

So I don’t expect to draft a QB that high, like ever. It would take a new head coach who makes it apparent upon hiring.

Michael Penix is quite accurate and excellent with his reads. He’s also a favorite of mine.

shedeur Sanders probably won’t leave college just yet because his father said so.

Why can't we include coaching staff every year? Not a draft, but like a tournament. All 32 teams throw their staff into the arena and they have to compete in various games or skills like darts, sports trivia, tug-o-war, chess, with bonus points for creative play design and the ability to not look stupid.
The loser gets to pick first.

Sorry, all I have left is sarcasm.

I agree. This is just talk about the draft and FA's that could help strengthen the team even more next year. Nothing more. Just something to pas the time until Sunday.

We made an adjustment to go down in weight across the Dline. Saunders Cam Jordan and several others Including Payton Turner are at lighter weights than they’ve been previously. Saunders quoted as saying the lightest he’s been in his career.

This was down to get speedier across the front to help w/ so many zone schemes. For that reason I can’t see them getting a 330lb guy to play NT.

They’ve shifted to more of an attacking front.

But the days of drafting a LT from Middle Idaho A&M because his RAS scores are high and he bullied players from East Oregon Tech in the Hills Have Eyes Conference championship game - are gone
+1

From your lips to God's ears.

With the no-sit-out portal, the days of Khalil Mack staying at Buffalo or Terron Armstead staying at Arkansas-Pine Bluff are probably over.

No more Trautmans or Marc-Payton Daventurners, pls.

Bruh if we pick another GD O lineman early

Priority #1: DT - Edge - LB - Safety (bonus points if we get a guy that can do all 3)

Priority #2: QB but if you go QB over 1...i wouldn't be mad (lol - like they give A :poop: about how nice I feel)
In what 56 years, only one Qb taken in round 1. Archie manning. As much as we all want a Qb in round 1 it’s not going to happen. But what might happen, fate may have lined up perfectly for us to take my fav Qb Jordan Travis. Being injured he’ll surely drop in the draft. If Denver keeps winning our second round pick might balloon to the 50s. And thats where we’d take him. Becaue we have no round three. Our next pick is ready for it, round 5! We will gain a compensatory pick or three, losing Elis, OYa, and Tuttle. Maybe we get a 3rd back? If not, then all of the good ones will have been gone by round 5.

Here's a look at what I believe is a position of need, Offensive Tackles.

J.C. Latham- OT, Alabama Rank- #3 6'6"/360# This dude is a massive RT, could be the eventual replacement for Ram. Ram isn't getting any younger or healthier and he seams to be regressing.

Taliese Fuaga- OT, Oregon St. Rank- #4 6'6"/335# Here's another massive RT that could be a replacement for Ram.

Kingsley Suamataia- LT/RT, BYU Rank- #9 6'6"/325#. Love his versatility in being able to play both tackle spots and he does it well.

Matt Goncalves- LT/RT, Pittsburgh Rank- #17 6'6"/330#. Another O-Lineman with versatility. Will need a little time to completely develop. Would be good depth at both Tackle spots.

Troy Fautanu- LT, Washington Rank- #21 6'4"/317#. A real road grader in the run game. Still needs some work on pass protection.

A couple of these guys could be Ram and Peat's replacements in a year or two. Ram and Peat are aging and having injuries, They're going to need to be replaced at some point.

And this is our guy, have to get him in the second round. Line up T’Vondre Sweat next to Bryan Bresee and we have a legit interior against the pass or run. Yeah I like Malcolm Roach and our other DTs but they have a ceiling that is not as high as Sweat.

We still need another DE since Cam is declining fast. We might be okay with who we have because Carl Granderson has taught me not to give up on guys so soon. Maybe Foskey emerges as a starter in late 2024 or 2025. Cam Jordan had one sack his rookie season and is pretty high on the all-time list.

In any case, I like T’Vondre as a second round pick.

I would love to have him, I wonder how good he would be if he played lower and not so high. But the Saints OL makes it impossible to draft him in the second round.
