We need to talk about Chris Olave’s concussion issues (1 Viewer)

The only thing I will say is Tua's concussions seem to be far more serious in nature compared to Olave's. Not to diminish any blow to the head or any diagnosed concussion. But I truly fear for Tua's life when he's out on the field.

Fell and hit my head in a third world country this year. Needed stitches. I didn’t pass out but I couldn’t remember how I got there for hours. 100% my first concussion. For me it wasn’t that bad and I don’t have issues from it. But I wouldn’t want to go through it again. The brain fog was unreal. I saw my friends and didn’t know how any of us got there. That’s 2-3 hr period after the fall I only remember bits and pieces.

I can see how someone who makes $$$ says it is no big deal because it isn’t like a broken bone or torn ligament since there really is no rehab vs the money they get paid. My fear is the toll it takes on your mind with each concussion you get.

Anyone else as concerned as I am about this?

The whole media/fan world criticizes the Dolphins organization and their handling of Tua, who has had four concussions since 2019. Well, our guy Olave is now at four concussions since 2022.

This is becoming a major problem for him and one that may deserve drastic measures.
No long term deal

I've had 4, spread out over several years. My first was in 7th grade playing football on break. I didn't really notice anything wrong until I found myself in the girls bathroom and later couldn't find my locker. I was OK by the end of the day, but took a break from football for the rest of the day.

It should also make the Saints think about whether they should give him a new contract after his rookie deal is up.

No way would I give him another contract. Let another team deal with that.

I'd trade him when he's healthy before extending him.

I do like that he got bigger and is better at contested catches than he used to be, however concussions are scary and you never know when someone might not come back from them or they just retire.

I doubt he would sign He gives me the impression he doesn’t care to be here
I've had that impression as well. Maybe it's just his personality, but he seemed to be one of the disgruntled guys last year and he's not getting the production here that I think he expects. His brothers twitter comment didn't come out of nowhere.

That actually would be a smart move. He has another cheap year left. We should be able to get a decent pick for him. Otherwise maybe a comp pick when we let him walk.

Yeah, we could probably get a decent pick as well from a contender. His skillset is useful, but the good thing is there are a lot of 6' 185-190 good route running WRs.

This is where picking up someone like Metchie of similar size/skillset would be good and could give us cheap redundancy at that WR role.

Or another option is to pick someone up in the draft and start that rookie contact clock over.

Sadly, I agree with this. Four concussions is no joke in this modern NFL. Plus, head injuries aside, I'm not sure I would want to invest a ton of money in him. He's a very good player, but not great. Does not seem to command the targets that a great receiver does. He only got 8 targets total in our two big wins in week 1 and 2. I also agree that his attitude does not really imply that he wants to be here.

We probably need to have him wear one of those soft shell helmets. Not the cap but the paint on one , and he needs to be sat down for the rest of the year.

My son is a unit at 12 and was cheap shot his head bouncing off the ground , a severe concussion. we shut him down. Might not let him play until mid high school. Concussions are not a joke. And each one comes easier. Sucks

Broke my heart
Ah man. Yeah, concussions are a serious deal and scary to deal with.

I had one a few years ago from faceplanting into the concrete while running full speed. I felt completely normal on the ground, not dizzy or anything like that. I got up and ran into my house. My wife took me to get stitches and when I was asked questions like what month it was, I had no clue. I could not do basic math. Other than this I felt completely normal. It was a very scary feeling.

I hope your son heals up and ends up crushing it when the time is right!

Yeah, I am not sure we should invest a huge contract in a player with so many concussions already.

I wonder how the Dolphins feel about giving Tua that contract. Not their public answer, the behind closed doors with GM and above.
