We Needed This Beatdown (1 Viewer)

That’s the problem with the cap shenanigans, if you wake up and find you’re a bad team, there’s no way to really clear out bad contracts and start over. This team has been bad for awhile, fooled by stealing close wins against mediocre teams.
Now we can't even get those wins.

No #1 RB, #1 C, #1 or #2 WR, #1 QB, #1 LG, #2 CB and traded away your #1 CB or your biggest offensive threat in Taysom.

Yeah I get it tear it down, but let’s not act like this isn’t a bunch of 2nd and 3rd string guys playing in place of all your primary starters.

This was not a good team when we had most of those pieces. It's not going to be a good one with them next year. We have no depth precisely because we screwed the cap up so badly. The time to rip the bandaid off is now. Eat some contracts, sign UDFAs, start all your drafted rookies, and play for the future next year.

This is why I did not want to extend Kamara. We did ourselves in further for a fan favorite who will end up retiring before we are even competitive again. Taysom is 35 and made of glass at this point. Our #1 WR has the type of concussion issues that end careers. Our #2 WR is a glorified #3 WR.

The time for drastic changes is now because if this culture festers another couple of seasons, we could end up in a really bad place as a franchise.

Will the local media step up and ask the Saints FO the tough questions now!?! I wish someone with access to the powers that be would do that for us fans.
Almost like dealing with the mafia right? lol.

It will never happen but you are absolutely correct. Mickey, Lauscua, Bensel and Ms Gayle should all sit down with the media and field the tough questions and the reality about why everyone else in the organization has been removed but the FO personnel. It seems like a legitimate question since they contributed to this mess.

I'm hoping that Loomis gets the hint and retires this offseason.

Unfortunately, if he did, I'm not convinced that would lead to the house being cleaned. If it's just the next man up in the organization, nothing changes.

but if the cap was in check, they could afford adequate backups.
I don’t disagree, but reality is reality. If they have a good draft but return most of this years talent they can add quality depth in the draft.

Still think this was a 8-10 win team w/ out all the injuries. We were a top heavy roster, we knew that coming in, but no one expected us to see the rash of debilitating injuries we got.

Best thing to happen is pick low, not to burn it all down but to have access to talent that you wouldn’t had we won 9 games but missed the playoffs.

Picking 8-10 spots back in every round of the draft means you miss out on roughly 70 potential players because you pick so far back.

I feel like we could’ve said this about seven times this season

you are correct. half way decent drafts would have helped in the backup dept. but they seem to get one decent signing and then the rest are like 3rd stringers being asked to start or be immediate backups. if we are going to suck as bad as we are, at least cut whomever they can and eat the crap sandwich and then start over. we can't suck worse by signing more substandard players on the cheap and eat the cap hit the next two seasons.

Be careful B, although you, I and a growing number of longtime SR members share this sentiment there are quite a few SR members still loyal to ML and our FO for whatever reason.

Personally I think it’s those that are adverse to change. I have said this before in other posts but I’ll say it again and add to it so I can be properly quoted, “the Saints will NOT win another Super Bowl or another playoff game with ML as our GM”.

Go ahead, copy that and when I’m wrong all those that disagree can repost what I said. I’ll even double down. If I’m wrong, and Loomis stays and we win even 1 playoff game I will no longer post on SR ever again.

That's the fastest way to lose media access. Saints organization has the media under their thumb.
Yep, you will be reduced to a blogger, just putting opinions together, like us here

The primary starters are all perpetually injured.

Keeping them around is just asking for more years of starting backups for 70% of games.

I'm not sure it will matter. Loomis is arrogant at this point. He knows he inherited a golden ticket when Mr. Benson passed away and does what he wants without ramifications. He's loaded the building with his yes people and doesn't care about winning anymore. He'll come out after the season smacking his mouth with some gum and give bad answers again. Then he'll hire a head scratcher of a HC like Glenn or Marrone and we'll try to put a good spin on it because we want to be hopeful. Then he'll make some questionable extensions, restructures and draft picks.
