I think we should finish the season with some pride. But, I think the dye is cast already for DA. I think he has lost the team on some levels, but is still well liked by the players. I still like the guy, he was as advertised as a DC. The defense is still very good, but some what adrift at the end of the season. It isn't just losing, it is how we can look so bad against the worst teams in the NFL in the weakest division and conference. With the 2nd easiest schedule. This is a really good roster, to good to waste.

To start the turn around, we have to understand what wins in today's NFL. On our super bowl run we knocked Farve and Warner out of the game. Those guys got there clocks cleaned. You can't get away with that today. All the new rule changes have favored the Offense and QBs specifically. The same with WRs, CBs are just one awkward tackle away from getting a flag.

In today's NFL a guy with an good offensive mind can scheme games for injuries, and if your QB goes down. They can scheme it for the new guy. Sean won with every QB. You don't get that with a defensive DC coach. You also don't get to super bowls.

You need these to get to super bowls.

A GM/talent evaluator, Offensive play caller coach, and at least a top ten QB1. No one is getting to super bowls without them. The rest can be cobbled together in the first 2 years. Hiring DCs as head coaches, are doing it the hard way. The stats don't lie.

coach and QB are the two most important people in the sport. And they’re both bad.

I actually still have faith in our FO. They’ve done more good than bad. I’m willing to give them one more chance to get coach and QB right.

There is nothing wrong with the front office taking a shot and missing. I'm sure everyone meant well. But, but this is a $4 billion franchise with a big investment locally in the Saints doing well. Nothing sells the dome out faster, than hope and a new coach.

I'm guessing, that If they keep DA for another year, it will be because they are selling the team. Then cleaning house would be left for the new owner. Though, the succession has Loomis and DA's job safe, some where. I'm thinking that only applies to the reaming part of the season, and then the new owner could pick his new GM and coach. I'm sure someone knows more than I about how that applies.

I don’t know that you can realistically say that Super Bowls is the bar set.

The Saints have made one Super Bowl and that was 14 years ago. I know, I know …the “no call” in 2018. But that same teams was intact in 2019 and 2020 and had only 1 playoff win.

I think it’s realistic to say we have a bar of division winner and playoffs.

All of those things are still on the table if we are being honest.

The Saints have the same number of Super Bowls as the Eagles.

Yeah, SBs are the ultimate goal, but there's only 1 winner every year and luck has a lot to do with who wins it. Staying healthy and peaking/getting hot at the right time are key. Teams just work backwards from there, Conference Champ, Division Champ, Bye week, winning division (home playoff game) then making the playoffs. The regular season doesn't matter other than working on things, trying to stay healthy and making it to the real season, the playoffs.

Very true. The only goal not realistically on the table for the Saints right now is Home Field. Everything else is still technically in-play with 4 weeks to go.

True - but the Eagles have been to 2 Super Bowls since our last trip. But I do get your point.
Just to add, they did have a rough last season with Pederson and Reid’s last year was about the same.
And Kelly’s tenure was pretty toxic from what former Eagles have said.
Point being, transition is always hard, that’s what what makes the 90s to the present Packers, Steelers and Landry to Johnson so unique

Surprisingly, the Saints are a win away from being tied for 6th.

Yeah - unfortunately they have H2H losses with two of those teams in the muddled mess at the lower end of the playoff picture.

Times, they have changed. Along time ago in a galaxy far far away that’s all we’d be talking about.
It would be “ wow! we’re one game away from the playoffs this late in the season. Can u believe it? Go Saints!”
Now it’s like. “ crap, can u believe we’re one win away from screwing up our entire future mediocrity here we come”

It’s actually not a terrible spot to be in at the moment.

If the team responds to the challenge and reels off 4 wins - then there’s playoff football with the Saints (in theory if they won 4 straight to close out ) playing their best ball.

If they miss the playoffs - you have a much higher possibility (though not a guarantee) that you fire Allen and Carmichael.

So all around - it’s exciting. ( in theory😆).

I have faith in the organization because they spend and try to compete. This is an aggressive organization that, before this season, was looked at very positively. The “program” is strong.

Unfortunately, given the way we’ve built this team, there’s really no way out—we can’t “blow it up” and be in a place to compete again in two years. It is imperative that we hit on the draft this year and next. We need a 2006 or 2017-type draft.

We’ve also got to move on from Allen and set ourselves up to move on from Carr as soon as financially possible.

There is a path forward, it’s just a tricky one that requires good execution. There’s no room for error.
