What has to improve most for Saints to have a successful 2023 season? (1 Viewer)

Last 5 SB winning teams have averaged 27+ Points Per game... Saints were at 19.4 Last year. I thought it was pretty obvious in the offseason we needed to find about an extra TD on offense per game... But Nooooooo... We need more D-Line helpz! LOL Defense no longer wins Championships... Offense, QBs, and O-Playmakers do... This is not my opinion... This is fact.

MT needs to be healthy, O-line needs to be healthy, need to get more out of RBs, Derek Carr needs to be a step up, Carmicheal needs to be better with Carr.

All of that should lead to significant offensive improvement. I'd expect at least some of it to hit.

I think Carr is an upgrade at QB without question... Otherwise.... Relying on guys that we simply have not been able to rely on.... Just seems like a bad bet.

Call me cynical, but I have a feeling you'll see less time missed due to injury with Carr on the team.

I hear you... But if you add up all the games missed over the last 2 seasons by Ram, Peat, McCoy, MT13, Taysom, TQS, and AK... then add the 6 to 8 games AK will almost certainly miss this year to that total... It's beyond cynical... It's staggering... And even with a bit of better luck... Just seems like a bad bet to not cover. That's all I got.

I'm of the opinion that with Carr as the QB and Pete calling plays, the offense will look a lot more like the 2012 offense. They didn't make any effort to bring in another TE like you would expect if they wanted to run more 12 personnel sets and ground and pound. I think they are going to sling it because now they have the QB and the receivers to run that kind of offense. They addressed the WR room last year, and the RB room this year. They have all the playmakers they need to be a top 5 offense. We just need them to stay healthy.

For me it's a tie between better luck with injuries and more explosiveness leading to more points scored on offense.

Believe it or not I felt even though lapses occurred the Defense played well overall. Even without yielding alot of turnovers they had their moments stopping teams when it mattered most minus the Bengals game.
OL health has to improve and Safety play too many business decisions and not enough turnovers

I still think we are still "a TE that doesn't give the play call away"... "a RB that can hit the home run"... and "a big healthy young X WR that can move the chains" away from being really good on offense... because we can't count on MT at all... Juan is strictly a receiving TE... and none of our RBs besides AK is a threat to house it or really contribute in the pass game. And I'm not even considering O-line health yet.

We had a chance to get all those things in the draft early... and didn't.

Maybe AT gets there... maybe JJ becomes a complete TE... and maybe Miller morphs into AK.... but I am not putting any money on any of that.

We were actually near the bottom when it came to games lost due to injury.
What metric is being used? It just shows the usual stats. I did find a little something called the BUS (banged up score) from last year and we were consistently in the bottom half of the league week to week. Tbf I also have no idea how that score is derived, with it being "proprietary", but it at least attempts to quantify injuries and its effect on teams.

Injuries and QB play are the top 2. After that better coaching and a little bit of luck on the D with turnovers. Last season our offense was a mess. We have the talent this year we could be explosive and put up a lot of points.

The Defense for sure 1# thing that has to get better. This is DA's team now, and he hangs his hat on the D. He cleaned house o defensive coaches, and players. We have a top 5 or better back end. We could all see the D line was all smoke and mirrors last yr. Shy Tuttle played hard, but couldn't be the guy, and Omenyetta hasn't been good since he popped for PEDs.

Never mind about the offense we have a much better QB, and a replacement for Kamara's 6+ game suspension. I think we still have a very good O line coming together. One of the 3 easiest schedules this yr. In a really bad conference, in a division. They will score an avg. of 25 pts a game, if the kicker doesn't throw my math off.

With a really top defense we could win a lot of games next yr with scoring an avg. 25pts a game. So the defense has to be really good. DAs job depends on it.

Competent qb, way fewer turnovers and much improved front 4 play on defense.
