What if I told you that we might be re-living the Mike Ditka era? (1 Viewer)

Haslett was good enough to not be great or terrible. His fault was his loyalty to Venturi and his stubbornness. Mind you he had Mcarthy as his OC but allowed him to walk, so that they could adopt Pittsburg's time of possession offense.

The more I think about it though, he reminds me somewhat of Wade Phillips. He's good for the first two years but when the 3rd year comes, the players start to tune him out.
Don’t disagree with any of that, just saying it’s absurd to me, to compare the two.
Haz and DA.

I think this resembles more the end of the Mora era. Allen tried to hang on to the Payton culture. Even though Mora was a much better coach than Allen, he hung onto Carl Smith and eventually just lost the team.

Want a redo of the Ditka years? Hire Gruden. Old, outdated, etc.

I could see it playing out like that too. Fire Allen. Whoever replaces him as interim is awful down the stretch ala Venturi. Then they bring in a popular but out of touch older coach out the game (Gruden/Ditka), fail miserably, etc.

I would say this is the more apt comparison because it’s the franchise still clinging to the Payton Era.

Exactly. And just like the last Mora days, the team got old. The Dome Patrol was pretty ancient those last few years and the wheels just came off. Just like what happened here with Jordan, Davis, Mathieu, Ram, etc.

Ditka didn’t care anymore and time had passed him by.

This resembles the end of Mora I agree. Roster needs a complete revamping, this piecemeal stuff isn’t working. Plus Mora had lost it by that point. He had used up what he had, and he had run his course. It happens to all coaches at some point. Even look at Belichick. His time came. Difference is Allen has never had the “it” factor

Now that Allen is gone, I believe we are officially closing the door on this era.
Before Allen was fired, it appeared that we were replaying 1999. Two of our wins were against the Cowboys and the Panthers. I'm hoping that Coach Rizzi can breathe new life into the team.

If history is any indication, the front office will likely be revamped (and I hope this means that Loomis is gone as well). Will next year bring a new beginning such as what we experienced in 2006? I hope so!
