What if I told you that we might be re-living the Mike Ditka era? (2 Viewers)

very similar to Mike Ditka’s team on offense and defense. Hopefully, our front office is better and catch what’s going on.

This offense looks just as bad as the ditka saints. WAY more talent…. But just as bad. Makes no sense whatsoever.
At least back then you could accept the failure because you knew that the talent level wasn't great, now it's painfully obvious that the coaches are the weak links.

Given AK's comments, if a change isn't made, I wouldn't be surprised if he asked for a trade.

As with most of you, I was shocked after the first two weeks and started to believe that things were different. Unfortunately that was incorrect.

How was I convinced that we may be re-living the Ditka era?

Well it's simple..
Going into the 2022 season (DA's first year), the motto was "Keep running the show". We were all convinced that by the victory the Saints had over the Bucs (9-0 in 2021) that DA was going to keep the training rolling. I was too .

It wasn't until the good Lord allowed me to have a dream regarding the Saints. The next day I posted what I dreamed:
I dreamed that we opened up against the Colts and we quickly fell behind. Our head coach was Mike Ditka and the playcalling was completely terrible. We were down by double digit points and we kept running the ball. It was like we weren't even trying to catch up and win.

The passing game was completely simple (throwing out of the I formation) and the QB still wasn't completing passes. On one play the QB finally hit a receiver in stride and before he could score a TD, he ran out of bounds and immediately grabbed his hamstring. I was totally shocked and surprised at the outcome.

I normally have one or two a year and I post them on here so that they won't come true lol
Another bad dream

As time went on, the meaning of that dream finally hit me: Our offense wasn't going to be what I thought it was, and the head coach is going to resemble someone from our past. Well...here you have it.
What's interesting is that even under Mike Ditka, some of the football that we've seen (more so on defense) wasn't this bad.

As history tends to repeat itself, I'm curious which Ditka year are we currently re-living?
Right now i'm leaning towards 1999...Ditka's final year. We went 3-13 and won the first game against the Panthers. I believe we were close to winning the next few games, and then the wheels fell off.

The only reason why I compare the 1998 season & 2023 is because both teams had a chance at the playoffs late in the season.

As stated earlier in the thread, if history is repeating itself, then this is DA's last year. My hope is that Mickey goes with him and we get a real football GM to turn things around.

This feels more like the Haslett era than anything. Frustrating knowing your HC will always just just enough to keep his job while in the back of your mind also knowing there isn’t a chance in hell he will ever be on anyone’s podium holding a Lombardi.
Unfortunately that part is on Loomis. But the hope is that he steps down after this year. A real GM wouldn't have kept him around.

Haslett is head and shoulders above DA imo. Guided our team to their first ever playoff win….and not just after a few seasons of existence lol.

He was also a hit with the cheerleaders.

Haslett was an average coach.
Take out the Katrina year and his Saints career was average.
DA is a below average coach.

Not a Haslett fan but no clue how anyone could have he and DA in the same ballpark?

This team had never won a playoff game since its inception, over 30 years worth by the time we won our first. With Haslett. That alone should speak volumes imo.

I loved Jim Mora and think he’s a much better coach than Haslett but he never got us a playoff win.

Haslett was good enough to not be great or terrible. His fault was his loyalty to Venturi and his stubbornness. Mind you he had Mcarthy as his OC but allowed him to walk, so that they could adopt Pittsburg's time of possession offense.

The more I think about it though, he reminds me somewhat of Wade Phillips. He's good for the first two years but when the 3rd year comes, the players start to tune him out.
