I need to know more about the bread. It doesn't outwardly appear to be NOLA-style French bread, so I'm going with "definitely not a taco," but there's no reason you can't pile a shirt-ton of Italian meats on French bread and call it a po'boy.

I totes agree but I don't think anyone down here does such a thing. They'd never make a go at it. Instead we have the aforemaligned Jimmy John's and the Subways and Jersey Mike's Subs and Firehouse Subs and Quiznos (which barely exist anywhere anymore) all trying to imitate what I love about my submarine sammiches from the north. All of those exist north of the Mason-Dixon, of course, but everyone up there has their favorite local sub shop that they keep in business.

I think it's analogous to how people down here, if I understand correctly. all kinda have their favorite local muffaletta place.

I liked Quiznos. think the same thing happened with Boston Market (which I also liked),they just overexpanded way too fast

This weird arse commercial didn't help

I did, too. They weren't far off from my toasted ham boats that were nice and crispy.

You know, I think that was subconsciously what made me so curious to start this poll as a yankee who got planted in the deep south. Y'all are so obsessed with your po boys and whether it's "dressed" or not and I just don't love a po boy. Never have, never will.

There, I said it.
Feel better now?

Your Poboy OBSESSED "friends" crying and clutching their sandwiches

Anyone want to do "what is this" with this?

I'd call the original post an (eye) talian...but a sub is probably more than acceptable.
I have no clue on the pic you just posted above.

Lived in MD for 33 years, there it would most definitely be called an Italian (or cold cut) sub......had a cabin in Spruce Creek PA for nearly 20 years, there they would call it a Hoagie.....

I like them hot or cold but honestly the bread is usually a mild disappointment....
