Saints What was your PERSONAL reaction to the “no-call” vs the Rams? (2 Viewers)

It was the first time I was irrationally unrealistic. I was really hoping the league would reverse the loss and give us the win. It was so egregious, I felt like the league office would have to step in and fix it. How silly of me, I know. But it there was ever a time that rule 17 could be applied, that was it. I never knew any ref by name outside of Ed Hochuli, and that was only because he was ripped and over explained calls. Now I will never forget Bill Vinovich or as we call him in my house Bin-a-**tch

A piece of Saints Fandom died in me that day and never returned. I immediately got on this forum and probably made 100+ post about it venting like everyone else was. Then went to bed late to wake up early to do another 100+ post. I think right then we all knew that was our last and extremely likely shot to win a Super Bowl, for possible decades to come, until we get a generational QB again.
I remember seeing your post. I think everyone spoke on it that day

Decades of not just loving the Saints, but thinking the whole NFL was one of America's greatest traditions, ended in one moment.

This is the closest description for me too. The thing that ENRAGES me the most about that (current tense....I'm STILL angry!) is that the ENTIRE WORLD of people watching that game saw it, except for the 4 zebras whose jobs are predicated on seeing such things. No one lost their job; no one got suspended; no one got fined. Not even an acknowledgement of "oops...we are human, and sometimes humans mess up."

This wasn't the Immaculate Reception, or the Tuck Rule, or the Zapruder Film....where to this day, your interpretation of actual events is subject to your perspective and likely your fandom. I could get over that. I could acknowledge an alternative viewpoint, even if I disagreed with it. The "No Call" was NONE of that. It was one of the most egregious FOULS in NFL history, in a pivotal moment of a championship game. And no one even REACHED for a flag. It's not like they threw a flag, but discussed it before picking it up and announcing "no flag on the play". They didn't even REACH for the flag. For that oversight in a game of that magnitude, SOMEONE should've lost their job over missing something so obvious!

The back judge who didn't call it? The crew chief who let it happen under his watch, as if it was just another play? Or someone higher up, orchestrating an outcome? I don't know WHO, because I don't know the whole story. But I know something should have happened....and nothing did. A HUGE chunk of my fandom "checked out" that day. It hasn't returned.

I used to watch as many NFL games as I could, focusing on games that benefited the Saints in some way. After the No Call, I quit watching ALL games that didn't involve the Saints. Since DA took over, I quit watching the Saints. I still follow the scores, maybe check out Sports Center game highlights, and I come here for my Saints fix. But it hasn't been the same since the No Call.

My uncle took me to my 1st ever Saints game in California to see us play the 49ers. He would travel with the team at least 2 games a year. I invited him to the Atlanta game later this year and he declined. It's sad really, but he just doesn't like Allen at all.

Complete state of shock. I was stunned. I just looked at the screen and was at a loss. Then anger. Then the conspiracy theories started up: Goodell just had the billion dollar SoFi Stadium built and wants it featured. The Rams were back in LA, the number two media market. The NFL wants that and not a small market like New Orleans. And so on.

For the first time in I don’t know how many years, I did not watch the Super Bowl that year.

Still angered by it and still think Bill Vinovich is an agent of evil. Hope that man is never welcomed back in New Orleans………

It was like a national tragedy in the Saints football world. In fact there will probably be to things I remember forever when it comes to the Saints. The Super Bowl win and that no call.
The Superbowl is #1
The 1st time I felt sick as a fan was watching Culpepper ruin our gold jersey game.
The most heartbreaking was 2011
The most angry I've ever been was the Miracle
The most in need of therapy I've felt was the No-call

My love for professional football went the way of the dinosaur. It was akin to what I went through professionally earlier that year. It was like the veil of innocence was lifted.

I was in the dome. It was surreal. Leaving the dome was like leaving a funeral. I think that was the beginning of my apathy for the nfl. I used to watch all games that I could. Now it’s just the saints. On a plus side, I don’t get as over emotional during saints games as I used to.
I was pissed off for a week at least.

This is sick in a way , but i honestly laughed because i was going through the worst year of my life and it just seemed fitting. I remember so vividly when the rams kicked the game winning field goal, the broadcast cut the audio from the super dome(i guess so they could drown out the booing) and all you could hear was joe buck say “the kick is …good and on to superbowl 53 they go”… All i could do was laugh.

Funny you mention 2011, I totally forgot about that one after the No Call. That one stuck with me until 2018 even more so because 2018 was the NFC Championship game one bad call away from the Super Bowl.

2011 was a divisional game if I recall not as much meaning still very important though. But that was more on the team more so than any league officiating. The defense was more or less trash back then in 2011. That was almost expected even though it still hurt bad. Miracle was a dagger no doubt and it was once again a divisional game. And of course, the Super Bowl will always be #1 in fact even if we win another that one will still be the #1 because it was the first. I would like to get another Super Bowl win to move the 2018 one down a peg.
