I was thinking the same thing when Haener came in. Dude is tiny for an NFL QB.
The Saints have a thing for mini QBs. Thus without a great offensive line that can open running holes and throwing lanes, they don’t have a prayer. 😢

I still say Spencer…. I can see why some would just like to see what Jake can do.

That said, I think it’s pretty clear one has NFL starter talent and the other is marginal at best in that regard.

Since the season is all but done…. I’d personally like to see if we have a future at the position with Spencer rather than hold onto the 1% hope we can somehow run the table with Jake.

We are no longer playing for a chance to contend…. We are playing to see who’s here next year, and who we have to draft…. But that’s just me.

I don't understand why we wouldn't want to see what Haener can do? Rattler was clearly not ready in his starts earlier this season. I like him, but he'll have plenty of opportunities in the next season or two to show he's ready. We need to see what we have in Haener more than Spencer.

Just my thing. I’m not worried about who is ready right now. Neither are IMO. I want to know if the guy in the building with NFL starter talent can be the guy going forward. I’m 99% sure that future guy isn’t Jake.

The reason I'm leaning Jake is because if he has value as a backup, we hang onto him for that reason and we'd be set there and Rattler or the next guy can be the guy who takes the team places. But I can understand going either way.

I see Jake’s ceiling as a shorter, weaker armed Derek Carr. I see Spencer’s ceiling as shorter version of CJ Stroud. Obviously I’d love for Jake to prove me wrong, and for Spencer to prove me right.

You probably said the same thing about Purdy and Brady. I'll bet if it's JH he does better than SR did.

If it's Rattler, we will have a better idea of who believed he should start back in September.

Was it DA trying to save his job?

Was it Kubiak because he thinks he fits the offense better?

Was it Loomis?

Was it Gale?

This will be an interesting week

I think Rattler got the start while Carr was out because he was more mobile than Haener and our O-line was decimated at the time. In college, Rattler could move around and buy time in the pocket but he wasn’t ready for the speed of the NFL.

When Haener has come in, he’s shown very good poise in the pocket, the ability to go through reads, and get the ball out quick. I’m in no way saying Haener will come in and look like Drew Brees, but he does deserve a chance with the starting offense to show if he has what it takes or not.

Allowing Haener to start will give both he and Rattler some game film for who ever is HC & OC to evaluate and determine if they want to go after a QB in the draft or not.
