It is clear that DA is not leading this team to anything but mediocrity - and this may not be even a .500 team. He's not a bad guy - he works hard and had some good ideas in the off season on bringing Kubiak to run the offense. The team has been decimated by injuries; but most of these have been on the offensive side. But that is not an excuse for the terrible defensive play the past four weeks. Yes, they held the Eagles down for most of the game but choked with the game on the line. There is a pattern of this with DA and defensive minded coaches who have multiple late game collapses and then an embarrassing second half like we saw today do not deserve a fourth season as HC.

But the question becomes - who would the Saints be able to hire to fix this mess? I like Kubiak and think he could possibly be kept on the next staff (especially if the new hire has connections to that offensive coaching tree), but don't see elevating him as a possibility. He does not seem to have the personality the position requires. I don't think the job will be very attractive to the top assistants in line for HC roles - as we're locked in with Carr, have major roster problems and a terrible salary cap situation that will take at least 2 more seasons to clear. up Add to this the fact that even if the Saints end up with a top 5 pick in the 2025 draft, there are no clear cut franchise QBs in this year's draft that could be the building block for a turnaround.

College coaches who have no prior NFL experience don't seem to work out very often., and I don't think hiring a retread NFL coach is the way to go (not seeing any Andy Reid types being let go this off season by an inpatient owner). Who are the under the radar NFL assistants you would like to see get the job next off season (assuming the Saints dump DA after this season)?

I'll be honest... Not the greatest. You may be better off keeping Dennis for another year and eating deadcap.

All jokes aside…. I think what I thought a few seasons ago…. Bring in Gruden to be the HC and I don’t care what the league or social media thinks about it.

He’s the closest thing out there to Andy Reid. He can turn this around. I’d throw the blank check at him ASAP

Gruden as HC with KK as OC with some mixing of schemes and competent game management… and a roster reset of a youth movement might do the trick

Yes - that is a concern. If they blame the injuries and run it back with DA again, what a dark lost season that would be. I think it would drop interest and excitement in the team down to levels last seen during the Ditka era.

We already wasted 4 seasons post-Brees. I can't imagine another one is going to hurt. Especially, if you fire a coach and your top 2 candidates pick other teams because they aren't $-97 million over cap and be forced to carry a QB's contract since it was designed to give you cap relief

McVay (if he is available) might be the one retread I could see as an attractive possibility. Is he on thin ice with the Rams ownership? Gruden - I like the guy's fire, but has the game passed him by? I think he is a traditional West Coast Offense coach, and it seems like that style has gotten stale of late (league seems to have figured it out). Plus would his gruff coaching style work with this new generation of NFL players? Don't be me wrong - I think he would be better than DA (at least more entertaining) - but not sure he is going to get us back on track.

I think a side question is who else will be competing for a new coach and where do the Saints rank?
The Jets are already in.
Dallas, Philly might.
Jacksonville.
Cleveland. Those are my guesses.
